Longest period of not driving the FR-S

47 days...the last 48 hours all I could think about was my little red FR-S. My coworker was cracking up. Got to the parking area, uncovered the car, did a nice walk around and visual inspection. Popped open the hood, checked the oil level. Put the key into the ignition and fired her up! Allowed the car to warm up for about 10 minutes while I packed some gear into the car. Seriously, made my day. I was soooo happy driving it back home for an hour. I had several boxes of goodies waiting, including OEM Audio + reference series, 5 Axis spoiler and shark fin antenna that I'm planning on installing tomorrow. These are all things purchased 3 months ago that I'm finally getting to. Wahooo, the wait is over!

The longest period has been this winter. Since November. I have been steadily working and ordering small parts to keep myself level-headed while I ride the bus.

Toys in-stock: Tom's tail lights, a new low profile shark fin off of a 370Z (I already have a Tom's, going lower profile), machined 86 plaque for the empty coin spot, a custom Flossy shift knob with red metallic flake, LEDs to replace the fog lights, turn signals, license plate. Expecting a set of knew Klutch5 shoes and that will wrap up this season's modifications.

Are we there yet?

I garaged the car in late November, but to be fair, I did actually take it once, for about an hour, the last week of December when the weather turned unseasonably warm for a day or two. But yesterday was the day; the first day of spring, it was up into the high 40s, the sun was shinning, I saw a deer grazing in the melting snow-covered meadow by my house, and it was time to take the FR-S out of hibernation. Zoom-Zoom time.

After driving my 2010 Honda Fit DD on wobbly winter tires for the last few months, sitting in the FR-S again was just beautiful; tears to the eyes, heart and soul kind of beautiful. Of all that is holy in this world, I felt alive again. Go Hachi-Roku! Banzai!!!!

And then suddenly, I'm transported into this truly bizarro world where everything around me is in slow motion and people are all acting like the fabric of time and space has been disrupted, driving, turning, accelerating, moving; all at 0.5 times normal speed. Or less. Occasionally MUCH less.

What was happening? It was a rural area. Country back roads. The speed limit said 50. They were going 37. They were slow. Ponderous. Texting a book kind of ponderous. I passed one woman, driving a Mercedes 350ML no less, going up hill, starting at about 40 mph. And I never took it out of 6th gear. (Does this belong in the "This car is barf slow" thread?) I could have shut down a cylinder and shifted at 2,900 RPM and still have gone faster than most of these people. Was the moon's orbit out of sync or something? Or have I jut gotten used to the Fit?

I suddenly felt like I was doing something highly illicit. What if the police see me hooning around, going...53 mph...in a 50 mph zone? Hmmm. I guess it's OK. But why am I going almost double the speed of everybody around me? Either my speedometer broke or there was something in the air.

Still had a good time though. Yay Spring! Now please stay.

Last Winter wasn't so bad, but this winter the wait is killing me...she's been under cover since mid-November and since they're considering the possibility of snow next week...it might be 2-3 more weeks before she's out (I'll wait till they start fixing the giant pot-holes and sweep up the salt mix). Damn 4.5 months...

I chose not to drive it this winter... I live in New-Brunswick, I think my car is trapped in the garage until late May... It`s insane here.

Interesting observation

I too have driven mine all winter as well. However with all the new bits and pcs I have stockpiled for the car, the wait for good weather is almost as painful. 10 more cm's forecast for tomorrow.
