My opinion (and "love") for the AT in the FR-S is pretty well documented in my Owner's Journal, so I won't repeat that here just say "Yep, best money I spent on modding the car from stock for me".

I'm curious, does 5th and 6th come into play in typical track/autox'ing in the car? What little bit of racing I've done way back in the day was done in cars with "only" 4 gears at most. |

In autocross you will never see 4th. Maybe every once in a great while 3rd. Mostly 1st and 2nd.

I love the AT in mine, definitely the best feeling automatic transmission I've ever felt.
Though for that article, man, what's up with their 0-60 times? They suck, 7.3 seconds with the MT? Every other review I've read put it in the 6.2-6.4 range, and the AT definitely doesn't feel like it's only 7.9 seconds, it does feel much slower than my Dodge Magnum, and that did 0-60 in about 5.8-5.9 seconds. |

It's cool that they praised it as much as they did. I'm surprised that they compared it to a lot of other dual-clutch transmissions in terms of how well it performs.
Good points about the gearing for fifth and sixth, since this car is likely to be at home on autocross courses where you usually don't hit fourth gear anyway. You might notice it on a bigger road course with longer straights, but a 200 hp car isn't the best weapon there anyway. |
