Another Salvage BRZ project. 2015 BRZ Track Car

So way back in May 2012 I took delivery of my 2013 BRZ Limited. Ended up tracking the car quite a bit and loved it but came to the point where I either needed to really build it, or move on to something different. I ended up selling it and moved on to a number of other cars since.

Sadly, in December I decided to ride with @Opie at Sebring in the rain.. and immediately started looking for another BRZ. Oddly I have driven his car at Sebring multiple times but it wasn't until having a blast with it in the rain that I wanted another one. (it's dry times are still SLOWER than my Camaro's wet track times haha)

The goal is to get one setup for track use, with safety equipment, that I don't need to trailer to and from events. I have much faster cars that I can drive to the track but no rollbar/etc and I have cars that need to be towed.. so this would be an option to use when I want to go to the track but don't want to tow a car there but still want real seats, a roll bar, HNR usage, etc.

Since I didn't want to pay full price, I started looking for a "lightly" damaged BRZ/FRS on erepairables. I bid on a few cars but lost those. I finally won this one. It's a 2015 BRZ Premium in Ice Silver or whatever they called it in 2015.

Here's some pics from when I picked it up at Copart in Atlanta, GA:

Went a mile down the road or so and took the hood off to more safely transport it home:

So far, the car obvious has:
Tein Flex coilovers
RPF1s
245 width mid 2017 Pilot Super Sports

It obviously needs:
Drivers headlight (pass light mounting tabs are broken but I think I can repair that)
Hood
Core support and all related mounting pieces
Radiator
AC condensor
some AC lines probably (the car will be street driven as well)
Coolant overflow
Windshield washer bottle
Intake
MAF (already bought one)
Bumper cover
Drivers airbag (steering wheel bag only) (and rebuilt seatbelt pretensioners, reset airbag computer)
And probably more. I'll know more as I tear into it.

I am floored by the fact that car was a write off. It was wasn't it? I mean the damage is very light and other than the parts you listed I can't imagine there was much more involved. The perfect car for your described project.

From the looks of the engine, maybe it got banged up from being pushed around in a flood? Sure looks dirty. @Dave-ROR. you know the history?

From what we've (Opie really since he knows that guys at said shop) gathered through a shop that set it up for track use, it hit a deer. The hood being taco'd up and it sitting in a copart lot in Georgia for 2+ months likely has a lot to do with the engine bay being dirty. The interior is clean minus the soda that flew everywhere in the accident (sticky, no evidence of water damage/etc though. Soda cup included for free!). Trunk is clean. Tires have that Georgia clay on them of course. Wheels themselves are pretty clean though, some brake dust.

All the metal damage is above the crash bar. I haven't pulled the bumper cover yet but the bumper foam, bumper itself, etc look perfect.

Given that, a deer makes sense.

@Tcoat, I think it was totalled because of the airbag. Insurance companies replace it all, I'll replace what's bad, fix/reset (well have someone else do it) what can be repaired/reset.

The key for me is that the frame rails, including the extensions for the bumper, look completely straight.

Was the airbag in your original list? I didn't remember seeing that. Ya that would certainly make the difference. Still a great buy if the price was right.

edit: damnit I edited your post instead of replying haha

Depends on when you read it.. I added a few things that popped into my brain over a few edits. Multitasking in a work meeting and all Price.. well I'll post the final it takes to make it fully legal. I have a bad problem of not skipping corners (ok maybe that's not a BAD problem.. but whatever) so it won't be the CHEAPEST way to get it done I'm sure.

Glad to see you re-joined the group...lol

Me and Dave-RoR got it started with a new MAF and some airbox parts I had laying around from my 2 rebuilds (1 & 2) tonight, car runs good and drove off the trailer with no issue. Can't wait to get into this one and help get it on the track. Should be a pretty easy refurb. Think you got a great deal.

Tcoat - Car is a 2 owner car, only accident was the one that "totaled" it in the eyes of insurance. No floods. Deployed airbags almost always total cars...insurance companies don't want the risk of repairing them.

haha yeah everyone should just use our MAF install method.. cut a hole in the intake tube with a knife, shove it in, align it sort of well enough, plug it in and drive away...

Oh Opie did find some deer hair too confirming the cause of the accident.
