I'm with you...I did 40,000 miles in two years in a Toyota MR2 with no A/C in South Florida because the repair was more than the car was worth.

I did a few years on my DC2 GS-R with no syncros and no AC in Florida. The compressor died so I removed everything. Hahaha. The silly things I would do when I was younger.

I need the AC about 20 days a year and if it is broke I will get it fixed at any cost!

Yea, I would today as well. Then I was young, new family and first kid. Priorities.

I need AC in NC probably 75% of the year. But I just sweat instead, or drive the Cayman.

If I ever allocated enough money to fix the AC...I'd probably turbo the car instead

Last year no AC in Vette, had it in the 86.

This year fixed Vette AC, did AC delete in 86 for weight reduction

The 86 doesn't have a similar cubby so it looks like I'll be shopping for a phone mount.

I'm just using that as an extreme example of something that I might "complain" about but obviously isn't a dealbreaker when it comes to buying an entire car. Just like engine power.

The ones I like clip to you AC vent and have a magnetic mount, my phone case has a magnet built in so it makes it really fast to mount/dismount.

Yea, since I use my phone for my radio, Or a thumb drive for my music. I don't really need the screen. Plus it keeps the win shield Clear.

Quick update... I couldn't be enjoying the car more. Brilliant vehicle, and so glad I bought it.

I'm now 100% used to all the things I thought were inconveniences initially. The awkwardness of ingress and egress. Having to store stuff in the trunk instead of being able to throw it in a back seat via a rear door. The lack of a central-locking system for the trunk and fuel door. Everything is copacetic.

I've adjusted my side mirrors according to the recommendations of the SAE to eliminate blind spots, so I no longer care that visibility out the back corners is awful. I was worried that the unusual mirror positions would take a long time to get used to, but it only ended up taking about 2 days.

I did the cheat code that turns on hill assist. The always-on green light for hill assist is annoying but I've more or less gotten used to it. The feature is very well-implemented. Really convenient for the hills in downtown Seattle.

I designed a little plastic tray for my phone that hooks on to the bottom cubby and had it 3-D printed. Now I can store my phone vertically (in landscape orientation) in front of the shifter and use it for turn-by-turn navigation. It's not THAT convenient to look at while driving, but I don't have to look at it often. I will probably eventually upgrade to an aftermarket stereo that has AirPlay but this setup is fine for now.

The stereo takes FOREVER to connect to my phone via Bluetooth, but my workaround is to pick out a podcast on my phone when I get into the car, start playing it via the phone, rewind it by 60 seconds, drive away, and when the stereo finally connects, I haven't missed any of the podcast. It's kinda dumb but it solves the problem.

I have the problem that everybody seems to have where it's hard to get into 2nd gear when it's a bit chilly out and the car hasn't warmed up, but I never really found that to be much of a problem. I can usually just use 3rd gear, but if I really need to get into 2nd gear, I can usually rev the engine to ~4000 a few times and find a point where the shifter will go into 2nd. (Oddly enough, when it's really cold, getting into 2nd is sometimes super smooth and easy.)

As for my big initial complaint about road noise, I think the brand-new tires were a big part of that. The road noise seems to have subsided to a large degree. Or maybe I've gotten used to it. In any case, it's no longer a disappointment, so that's nice. There is still a substantial amount of road noise, so for a couple of the longer trips I've taken with the car, I put in my Bluetooth earbud headphones and the drive becomes super quiet and relaxing. Excellent $20 solution to the problem.
