You youngsters missed it. Nissan (Datsun) is going retro just like GM.
The Datsun B210 flying scot I think it was called.
Cheap basic ugly transportation is what I called it.

I agree that Nissan has gone retro, but I disagree on the Datsun B210…

While a quality econo-box, the B210 is not really something one would think of when deciding to 'go retro' by modernizing a classic line…

While the Skyline, on the other hand, is a perfect choice…! And it is one that I truly believe this concept is derived from…

Look at the headlights & tail lights, they scream first gen Skyline GT-R… And the angles on the C-pillar/rear quarter window are more like the first gen (1971 & '72, the only years the first gens had a coupe model) Skyline than the B210…

I also agree with many here that the initial concept is kinda funky, but the changes made for the Nismo version REALLY make a difference!

I would definitely be interested in seeing that Nismo version as a production vehicle. The first legal Skyline to be released for the US market, perhaps…!?!

If the Nissan comes factory manual with the turbo4 and under 2500lbs I think it will be a winner, styling isn't that important.

The sales of the ft-86 are unbelievably strong, more so than I think anyone predicted. I would not be surprised if this Nissan is put on the dev fast track.

If Nissan could build that, I could almost careless how it looked. Unfortnautely, nobody seems to be able to do this in todays market.

I think the Nismo version has some potential though. The side profile looks great, the front end needs some work, but not the kind of work they are doing on the average Nissan. Current nissans are so...blah...

I'm sure Nissan will put a CVT in it and make it weigh 3000+ pounds though...which then puts it right at the front of the list of cars I'll never consider buying.
Yeah, if it had those specs, it certainly could compete quite handily with the stock 86. I doubt it will, though.

I'd almost rather have an LSD option and make a torsion and a mechanical clutch pack available. I'd love a strong clutch pack LSD but I know they don't play well with traction control so it seems most OEMs are steering away from them (and maintenance wise).

Goes right along with the rest of the items on that list though, it's a wish list and probably doesn't reflect anything that will actually be made.

My first torsion diff (all other were clutch based) little concerned with heavy snow performance. I had a 2wd chevy truck with about 70/30 weigh distributon but the posi rearend would plow thru 15 inches of fresh snow.

I haven't seen any photoshopped version of this concept yet, so I gave it a try. The watanabe's seemed like a good fit for this car, since it's retro inspired.

When I first looked at the car I was straight away thinking is it a joke? What a freakin ugly car!
But now after looking at it a few times, it actually looks very nice. I think this IDx is sort of like acquired taste kind of thing.

You just won the internet for the day. This render is fucking awesome man. If the car comes out looking a little toned down like this it would definitely hurt the feelings of naysayers.

Good choice with that classic yellow!

I would consider trading in the frs if this came out. I think it looks awesome like a 73 gtr. Japanese manufactures always copied American car style to be competitive in the market, however they also were cheaper, smaller and lighter. If the performance meets up to the car this will be a fun car.

Would still prefer something more modern in design, but I like old proportions.
