Oh, yeah. We're real pros.

Let's imagine for a minute that we can magically create the perfect atmosphere and dump enough water onto mars to make it habitable.

How are we going to keep it there without a geomagnetic field? It's a dead planet.

Force of will! Just like money will flow into new jobs and raises now that companies are taxed less for being stingy and not spending money and calling it profits.

My assumption is that it'll be more like Heinlein imagined he moon, all in caves. Maybe aboveground enclosures.

Not at all a mistake that it's all fiction... So far in history. The future may surprise us.

In the mean time, I'll be picking up my new earthly chariot soon. Probably Friday. Almost excited! Have to sell the Prius now though.

I swear I saw someone grow potatoes on mars. I have hope.

I can't even... Haven't been able to since last November. SMH

It may but we'll be long dead before then. It's fun to consider the possibilities but [speaking to NASA] quit trying to sell it to us as some sort of post-apocalyptic option.

Merry Christmas! I get being 'almost' excited. Post pics anyhow.

Pressurized plastic domes with people living there and growing food with their own natural fertilizers are within the range of possibility, I think.
Just have to throw enough money at it.
The question is "why?"
Seems utterly pointless to me.

If that kind of funds are there, I'd much rather they send rovers to Titan and Europa. Much more interesting with their liquid hydrocarbon lakes and water ice and shit.

With those kinds of funds I suggest we focus on cleaning up our own shit and learn how to live without making such a mess in the first place.

A girl can dream.

The point is as a technical stepping stone. Same basic reason as going to the moon. Though the lunar missions were to develop rockets with massive payloads and guidance systems to deliver nuclear weapons. Colonizing Mars is about pushing energy and resource efficiency. If we can figure out how to sustain a settlement on a body where support is at least a year or 2 out, the same concepts should apply to increased efficiency on Earth. It's much easier to sell "let's do this really cool thing and then use technology form space" than "lets make some sensible things that costs a crap ton of money, may make your life harder, but will keep us from being desperate in 50 or so years".

Parents got me a new motherboard for my birthday. Windows decided that after the new motherboard install, I had a new computer and would need a new copy of Windows.

After about 10 minutes of jumping through hoops with an automated call center, following a internet link, entering some numbers from my computer on my phone and then entering some numbers from my phone on my computer, I have my copy of Windows restored. What a relatively painless process.

Usually it's pretty easy if you don't have Windows 'OEM' version. The OEM version is linked to a mobo and that's what windows assumes is a computer.

I never understood upgrading a mobo without upgrading to a newer socket for a newer CPU. Then again, I usually keep stuff for a few years which doesn't seem like your style.

Yeah, still not making a ton of sense unless you are saying you got the wrong board in the first place.
