Brings to mind back in an Army day, we had just come in from 60 days of running the EDP (Emergency Defense Positions) with a armored cavalry squadron, which consisted of running up and down the border just inside the 5K zone.

Now that is an area that separated the political border and geographical border between East and West Germany during the cold war.

Now, the USSR had 19 divisions on one side and we had 3 divisions on our side. Needless to say, the LAST thing "I" wanted to do is piss them off. However, the squadron commander thought it was a game to see how close we could get before they started shooting at us. Crazy dude.

(Years later, I found his name on "The Wall" in Washington DC)

Anyway, after that 60 day stunt, we got back from the border, into some temp officer quarters (with a steel cot and a thin mattress) and hot chow AND a supply of booze .....

A certain officer had quite a bit to drink and shortly after we staggered back to out partitions (rooms) we heard someone empty a couple of magazines from a sidearm. Me and another officer burst into his room and found him screaming at and shooting at the damn cockroaches .......

We disarmed him so we could get some sleep. Of course the CQ had to come upon the scene and make a fuss ...... since I was the 3rd highest ranking officer in the battalion of 833 men ..... I told him to go fuck off and I didn't want to see anything about this in his report the next morning ......
