2010 should be fine and valid until 2021.

Black Armor helmets are amazing quality, I know the owner personally. They are made by a manufacturer that makes carbon helmets for some of the big name helmet brands and the difference in weight to the $3k helmets is minimal, they fit great as well.

The only thing i can tell you is, go to a local place and try them on. Don't buy helmets online unless you tried them on before. It's a simple concept that will stop you from returning 20 different helmets.

You don't buy a new car before a test drive, eh?

Some specifics on your needs etc would go a long ways here.

Garbage questions get garbage answers.

I just picked up a cheap omp sa2010, fit my head better than the other couple brands on the shelf. Like the guy above said it really helps to be able to try them on.

The other day an hjc xxl barely gave room for my face and an xl omp was fantastic, the 3rd brand was sort of in the middle. My motorcycle hemet is a shoei xxl and thats a but past snug.

I had been using my shoei motorcycle helmet for events but new track wants sa helmets.

Many people don't understand how a helmet should fit anyways. Ripping it off their head when the chin strap is fastened is a good lesson though.

That is a good point and I should have mentioned it. Trying it on for proper fit is important. Their medium fits me great but my friend couldn't get their helmets to fit him right no brand/model is universal.

Funny you say that, i went helmet shopping with a friend who rides bikes. His way of telling if the helmet fits tight enough is to punch the top of the helmet when i had it fastened, without warning of course. I had the marks for days...

LOL I've never used that test. Just making sure it was snug enough that it doesn't slide across your skin (should move skin with it), loose enough to not create pressure points, and tight enough that it shouldn't be possible to rip it off your head forward with the strap tight.

I buddy of mine used to swear that XL was his fit as it was comfortable. I pulled it right off his head. He wears a medium now.

If you want a super comfortable helmet, they just cost a little more. I've got an HJC and an Arai. Both fit properly, both are DOT and Snell approved. The HJC is like sitting upright in an office chair, the Arai is like sinking into an overstuffed recliner.

When properly fastened, a correctly sized helmet should move with your head when you shake it side to side; it should not keep moving when you change direction. It should press against your cheeks, but not so much that you bite them when you open and close your mouth. And you should not be able to grasp the back of it and roll it forward off your head.

edit: OP, I've heard good things about purchasing from http://www.racequip.com/. I agree that you should try things on first, but that's not always feasible. My previous location barely had motorcycle accessories; auto racing stuff was nowhere to be found.

I like to support trackside organizations like Ron @ Discovery Parts, so I would attend a trackday event with trackside support and then go and try on every helmet they have. I wouldn't wait for a 2015 either.

This. Most of my fire gear I bought from a sponsor of an event I run, but the rest was all bought locally from Wine Country. They'll tend to match online prices anyways but do have tax.

My current helmet I did buy from OG Racing instead but that's because it was just discontinued by bell (in Flat black anyways) and neither Discovery nor Wine Country had my size in stock and couldn't get it.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I'll try and find some local shops that sell auto helmets and go try them on.
