Pentosin MTF has been discontinued

And I was just about to try it, having heard the good reviews. Just wanted to share in case anyone else wants to stock up on remaining units sitting around somewhere. I can't find any here in toronto

Give Synchrotech's, Mady by Torco, MTF a shot. Absolutely loved it in my built trans.

I just want to throw in that their oil is not 75W90, its between 0W30-0W20** viscosity.
So use at your own risk.

If you want to stick to the manufacturer's suggested specs .. Motul 300 is a solid choice.

Edit: ** that's engine oil ratings, forgot that transmission fluid ratings are a little different. Synchrotech is between Pentosin MTF-2 and OEM specs in terms of viscocity rating FYI.

I assumed OP knew this as he was looking at Pentosin MTF. I had no ill effects after 6k miles (granted not a lot) other than better shifting.

I'll be trying it in some other transmissions as well.

100% agreed though, this is *not* a weight recommended by OEMs. Use at your own risk.

Thanks,
Eric

While personally for me motul is better than OEM, it wasn't that much better. And becomes less smooth as time goes on. It's only been about 8 months and it feels almost oem.

seeing as you're toronto .. I'm not surprised it's been getting notchier lately as the temperatures drop

Could be, so I'm hoping to change it out in october and have it somewhat better. Still won't be as bad as oem, even in below zero. Just a shame cause I was really looking forward to trying pentosin and now I can't. That other brand I don't think is available in canada.

well you can venture outside the suggested specs since its pretty cold up there ... or you could just venture into new york and use one of those amazon pick up sites or something along those lines hahaha

Had Pentosin for about 12k miles, but the dealer changed it to Subaru OEM transmission fluid recently while doing warranty work. Pentosin was GL4. Subaru gear oil is GL5. I'm gonna leave it in and see what happens. Not sure if I should believe in the whole GL5 vs yellow metals argument...

And how does it compare to the Pentosin. The general consensus at least in Canada where it's cold is that Pentosin MTF-2 75w80 is the best for cold weathers - and it's really smooth. Higher and longer lasting session is another story of course and questionable.
