wiring is cake, one plug for the muffler (pre wired) and then plug it into the cigarette lighter if you want, i opted to mount the control box in the trunk and tap power from my backup camera power and ground that i ran off a mini add-a-circuit.

Awesome stuff as always. I can't wait to see the dyno results.
I think it is stainless, they have more details on the varex website. Road dyno of open vs closed in next post

FA20club 4-1 Catted Long Tube

So,

The header finally arrived yesterday around 3. There was a slight mix-up, I had ordered non-catted, with extra bung. The secondary that shipped was catted, no extra bung :{

I decided to make lemonade though @FA20Club.com was king enough to agree to let me test the catted section over the weekend and decide if i really want the non-catted... In short, yes, yes i do want the non catted. The varex does such a good job at keeping the volume down when it's closed that i end up leaving it closed most of the time... I'll post some vids in a bit.

For now, here is a road dyno comparison of varex closed vs varex open. Exact same stretch of road, 4 minutes apart, no change but pushing the button to open the butterfly. Before anyone complains about road dyno blahh blah.. I over layed back to back runs on my next tune revision and they were almost identical so.. yeah

A few thought from today's test N tune.. the resonator in the V2 midpipe needs to be longer to get the sound where i want it. I noticed even on the stock header that there are a few raspy spots in the rev range, it's not so bad when the varex is closed, but when it's open, especially with the header, ohh man, heel-toe blips are raspy race car for sure. I think this is mainly due to the length of the midpipe resonator.. it is about 1/3 the length of the factory resonator.

My setup is completely different. I would not even compare mine to a traditional single exit V2. The varex muffler is nothing like the standard muffler they use so it is not an apples to apples comparison. Not to mention I am on a header and a over / front pipe. If all you are doing is the catback will not sound like mine at all.

Total catback weight is 30lbs right on the button. Sound levels taken from a free android app so only for the sake of comparison:
  • stock muffler cold start - 87db
  • stock muffler warm idle - 75db
  • varex cold start closed - 84db
  • varex cold start open - 90db
  • varex warm idle closed - 70db
  • varex warm idle open - 80db

Better video's to come...
Are these figures with the catless header? I've recently started looking into this and have seen people saying that even the cannon style muffler, sound levels are LESS than stock which astounds me. Ive been wanting to get a borla UEL header for a while but want to be able to lie low and not piss off all my neighbours on the way to the track

im doing something similar. just adding a butterfly valve on one side of the dual exhaust and a quiet muffler to the other side. i hope i can get it super quiet. i really want it dead quiet but i have no cats and full header back exhaust. what quiet mufflers are out there?

Why not just put the cutout (butterfly valve) after the front pipe?
Would be simple to do.

The way I mentioned wouldn't close it completely. It would be just like stock until you open the cutout.
I guess it wouldn't work for you though since you already have a loud set up. It would have been good for someone with the stock exhaust.

yea you could run stock exhaust with just a dump but then its extremely loud and no back pressure at all

Well yeah, the purpose would be to make it loud.

Don't bring up backpressure, it's irrelevant.
