FR-S shut off while driving and will not start

hopefully someone can help me or atleast put me in the right dirrection. when driving today (notmally, not spirited) the car shut off. i was coasting and still had power steering. when i pulled over and turned the key off and then tried to start the car, nothing happened. I connected my laptop to the car to try and read the diagnostic codes, my software couldn't detect my ECU... i'm thinking a short somewhere... and idea where to start or anything else i should look at...also any way to easilly test my ECU

Could your altornator have died? It doesn't get any power so it's something with your electrical.. I would test the connection of your battery and see if it's charged. Or even try jump starting the car. That would be the first thing i test.

i wouldn't think the alternator would cause the car to shut the motor off while driving...

If your alternator is going bad it will not charge your battery. If you have no battery and it runs out of juice it'll shut off your car (including the motor.)

Same exact thing happened to my Mother's mustang. Died while she was driving.

I was also giving you a sugestion on where to start. Not "the problem IS the alternator"

measure the battery volts
does anththing else electrical work ie interior lights ect
if battery volts good check fuses especially ecu and efi fuses, their is also fuse for obd port power.

i seem to remember another guy with similar problem car just stopped blew ecu\efi fuse think cause was shorted coil pack or short in fuel injector wiring due pinched during car assembley was under bonnet somewhere, finding which fuse is blown will trach down which circuit to trace.

if your car is modded check any changed wiring eg wiring to o2 sensors or flex fuel kits ect

Have you ever figured out why that fuse even blew ? What mods are on the car?

Did you ever find out what caused it to blow? Mine was I had appearnlty pinched the plastic insulation for the wires the go to the injectors. It will short on the black metal cover and blow the fuse. If you just replaced the fuse. It will short out again eventually unless you fix the insulation.

This is one of those cases where the OP did not tell the whole story.

His car broke down on the side of the road, and he just happened to have a laptop that was capable of connecting to the ECU??

Sounds like he was using a Tactrix, and something blew the fuse magically?
Just a Wild Ass Guess, but perhaps plugging in a tactrix had something to do with blowing the fuse?
