Re-wire Power outlets - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

Has anyone done a diy on how to rewire the power outlets so they always have power? It pisses me off that I cant just throw my phone in the car and let it charge when Im not in it. I did a quick search on it and didn't come up with any threads about it. I am going to do it soon. Any interest in a diy out there?

Yeah. Just run wires directly from the battery. Make sure you add a fuse though.

BTW, is glove box outlet also switched? I never checked before.

Both are switched, yes. I was more thinking switching the power source to the current fuses in the fuse box, and retaining all original wiring just removing the current switched source and adopting a constant power source from the same fuse block. I will try to delve into this sometime this week and shall create a diy upon completion.

I have a portable battery pack in line between the outlet and my phone so it charges from the battery pack when the car is off and when the car is running, the battery pack is recharged.

I was able to modify my fuse block yesterday so that power outlet 1 is always powered. The one on the glove box would require much added effort so ill settle for just the one.

I was trying to do this too. I gave up and just bought a kit to add an additional unswitched cigarette lighter port(tapped off of the radio harness). This is much simpler.

I fiddled with trying to get to the connections for the port in the console(which you can get to by pulling the E-brake veil) but I just didn't want to pull the entire thing apart to run wires.

This is a common feature in import cars. While you guys apparently don't like it, at least you're not at my store telling me your battery is bad when it's just discharged because your wife left her GPS plugged in all week while on vacation because you have a Chevy that doesn't turn the outlet off

Which charges via USB. I plug it into the car when it gets halfway discharged, otherwise it just sits in the cupholder area to charge things.

It's got enough juice to charge my Lumia 1020 about 3 times over, so you don't really need to keep it plugged in but you can.

It also doesn't heat up much due to its size, which is a must for me in the hot CA summers. With a window visor I don't have to worry at all about leaving it in the car to charge things.
