Special shout-out to Sainz, jumping in a new car with a new team and doing really well, that pass on Perez was sublime!
I really wish Max didn't get a penalty for that, it was such a feel-good moment at the end of the race, but I understand, I guess...

Also, glad to see Zak Brown trolling Honda hard during his in-race interview, they fully deserve the public shaming

Yes, Sainz did really good.

F-1 rules are not fair. The grid penelties are ridiculous, and rules should be the same for everyone. Not just for the "Chosen Few". Look at this, turn one, Vettle clearly 4 wheels off passing Hamilton. Did he get a penelty? Hell no.

Really a cheap shot against Verstappen.

Great exchange after the race

Christian Horner: It was a bad call by the stewards and it's not good for the sport.
Paul di Resta: So you would have been okay with it if Kimi pulled the same move on Max?
Christian Horner: Uhhhhhhhhhhh

But can you say Vettel gained an advantage by running wide in your example? I wouldn't say running wide is much of an advantage in most turns. Usually the exceptions are specified during meetings before qualifying. Cutting a corner on the other hand both decreases radius and distance traveled which absolutely gains one an advantage.

Also, Vettel was already in front at that point in your example.

I saw the pass from the onboard and saw a penalty coming immediately. Stewards made the right call.

Vettel* had already passed Hamilton at on that corner. The issue is that Max cut a corner to pass Raikkonen. Which he did. The drivers cannot leave the results in the hands of the Stewart's and if Max already has an issue with Garry Colleney from the FIA, he can't leave his results up chance.

Great clean race, even saw an overtake at turn 19 right in front of us. Gave Sainz my driver of the day vote because of that pass, but maybe I voted a little too early.

Funny how we seldom see "track limits" arguments in Suzuka, turns out if you design the track to actually punish drivers when they go off, you don't have to rely on stewards to enforce track limits at every race. Who knew??

I thought it was a cheap shot too, then I watched the video closely, all 4 wheels off the racing surface, I could care less about that second white line, he cut the course.

At least Horner is an honest racer, he'd take a ruling in his favor in a heartbeat.

@Lunatic you're right, inconsistent rules are worse than bad rules, and if any rule leads to boring racing than they're bad as well. If Kimi knew Verstappen could put his car all the way off the track he would have had two wheels in the paint defending the position. He didn't give it away, he knew what the rules were and thought he had the position defended as well as the rules would allow him to, there was enough space for Verstappen to have two tires on track and some breathing room, he got snookered out of that position on that corner. The passing rules in F1 have been a mess the past ~5 years or so as runoff area grows and courses make up arbitrary boundaries for competition.

Minimizing distance is huge in putting down a fast lap, don't underestimate the advantage Verstappen gained cutting that corner. I think in the name of good racing he earned that spot, but when you're not playing by the same rules as your competitors you get the smacked on the wrist, that's kind of the whole point of the rules.

Yup, your right, just went back and watched the replay. Vettel had finished his pass before going off track.

Q: Can we just a few words from you on the achievement of Lewis Hamilton, now a four-time world champion?

Kimi Raikkonen: I think you have to go and talk to him.

I was bummed to see the season end... but relieved to see that race end! What a snoozefest to send off the 2017 campaign. I'm elated we're getting the world feed next year too. Not that I don't like Matchet and Hobbs (I liked having the perspective of a former mechanic) but the Sky team not only is actually there (not watching the same footage we are) but there is a big team with much more recent drivers.

Now comes the long wait for 2018. There's a few endurance races and some rallying but the next 4 months are going to be long. I watch a lot of racing!

Where are the best places to watch rally and enduro in the USA? Important dates? I need more rally in my life.
