If I could have 30hp for just 7lbs I would be down with that. 107lbs is pushing it though. I will admit the torque dip was annoying me but the rest of the experience more than made up for it. I am much more happy with the car on E85 but even then I wouldn't mind having more power. Does it need more power, no. But who wouldn't want more power assuming all other things stay the same. As it is people throw headers, exhaust, E85 and tune on these things and gain more than 30HP and actually lose weight.

I've always felt the flaws of the 86 platform only serve to give the car more character

Not minding if the car was given more power is one thing, but if you actively want the car to have more power, you are of the opinion that it needs more power to be exactly what you want. So, I don't really consider there to be much of a difference between wanting the car to have more power and thinking the car needs more power. They're essentially the same opinion, one is just a bit more strongly worded. This is essentially just a semantics argument though so whatever.

Anyway, you said you were frustrated that other cars were getting power bumps when the 86 wasn't. If you think the 86 doesn't need more power, why would that frustrate you? This is the kind of stuff I was talking about earlier when I said that your opinions lead me to believe the 86 isn't the car for you. If you're frustrated that other cars have more power and the 86 doesn't, why not just buy a different car that has the amount of power you want? Just doesn't make sense to me.

And they lose things like cats and probably make it impossible to pass emissions and federal law.

I doubt the twins could get much more power without a purpose built engine. As already the upgraded 5 hp cannot be sold in Europe.

Well, because everything is a trade-off, isn't it? No need to be so black-and-white. Do I wish the 86 had more power? Yes. That doesn't mean I need to go buy something else instead, or that I'm going to be disappointed with the amount of power and want to return/exchange the car after I get it.

I also wish the 86 had a more convenient place to put a phone, for that matter. Doesn't mean I need to go look for a completely different make and model of car to buy.

Why? Recent 86 has Bluetooth connectivity. Phone will work anywhere in the car.

P.S. What's the valid engineering reason for the current thread to continue for this long?

I like to have my phone in a place where I can conveniently see it so I can use it for turn-by-turn navigation with the sound turned off. My current car has a little cubby for coins or whatever in front of the shifter and my phone sits in there perfectly. The 86 doesn't have a similar cubby so it looks like I'll be shopping for a phone mount.

I'm just using that as an extreme example of something that I might "complain" about but obviously isn't a dealbreaker when it comes to buying an entire car. Just like engine power.

This has to be a record for the longest meaningless thread.

I'll place a bet now OP winds up with neither a civic or an 86 in the time he stated.

You know you can get these with navigation, right? In the settings turn the sound off. This car has an extremely nice spot for the phone in front of the cup holder. Easy to reach and out of the way of the shifter and ebrake.

Didn't state an opinion, only an observation.
