Calty did too good of a job with the FT-1. I think the new Lexus LC and LS are pretty impressive in how close the production models are to the concepts.

Also I think BMW had too much say into the design of this interior. It's not as Toyota as the BRZ.

Yeah, I'm sure the car will look better in person. All these modern designs look terrible in 2D, but are very intriguing in person.

I guess I'm more confused about what's going on with the front bumper now.

I was really hoping the dash would be very driver oriented, the rendering shown looks pretty bland unfortunately.

I guess... Maybe? Toyota, while getting better at design, still tends to fall short. I dunno if another company could have better translated the FT-1 to production, but obviously that is to much for Toyota, either because of manufacturing limitations or otherwise.

Would anyone else agree these latest renders are probably 95%+ accurate?

Some of the details could still be wrong, but overall this has to be it, right?

For me, it is exactly what I expected, for the most part. See the Jalopnik render from last year. Obviously a lot of people wanted to dismiss that render in favor of the FT-1 inspired renders, despite spy photos that lacked any indication of those design elements. Of course, the Jalopnik render did turn out to be inaccurate in many ways, but as we see, it was a pretty solid indicator of what the final product is likely to be, unless these renders turn out to be total bunk.

Tokyo can't get here soon enough.

sadly they went with different proportions by basically trying to graft the 2+2 FT1 design onto a 2 seater roadster. still don't understand the bmw mirrors either strange that the i8 is their only coupe with door mounted mirrors

Now that spy shots of the Toyota prototypes in Japan have been published, I can say with certainty that they are not the cars that were at our facility because there's no way +2 jump seats will fit back there. So what they were and what Tada-San meant with his choice of words during our meeting won't be clear until Frankfurt.

I don't get it. So the new cars are not the new cars? The new car he saw has a torque tube?

My worry is that the new car will be a butchered Supra wannabe, or it'll be a reimagined sports car that fails to live up to its successors, even if it doesn't share their name. If it is a Supra wannabe then people will freak out like how Porsche owners freaked out when they changed the headlights and went water cooled with the 996 911. If it is a bad successor then that too could be like a Porsche car, the 928, which was a great Porsche in its own right, made to replace the 911, but so different in design and principles that 911 loyalists cried until it was gone.

Maybe wise to not name this new car as the Supra at all. GT-1?

Or being as big as Toyota, they probably already have a backup plan. Perhaps an LC500 based Supra like how it should be from the very beginning.

LC500 based soarer revival would be rad though.
