Lotus Seven

I noticed this odd looking car from a distance at a car show and found out it was Lotus Seven. I've never seen it or heard of it before.

So I'm wondering if anyone here has ever driven or owned one? Since it looks like it would be a fun car to have.

Quote:
Lotus Seven (1957–1970): Classic open sports car, a minimalist machine designed to manoeuvre a racing circuit and nothing else. The rights to the Seven were sold in 1973 to Caterham Cars, who continue to produce it today. Updated versions of this 1957 design are also produced by other speciality firms, including Westfield Sportscars and Donkervoort. Originally the number seven was applied to a Riley-powered Formula 2 car, but the vehicle was never completed in its original form, finally emerging instead as the Clairmonte Special, a two-seat sports car powered by a Lea-Francis engine.

It looks more like the Caterham 7 to me(replica of the Lotus). The seats look too modern to be original.

yeah actual sevens are pretty rare but there are a bunch of companies making "locosts." kinetic vehicles, westfield, brunton, etc.

What a video. I love the lotus/caterham/super 7. I've wanted to build one for the last, eh... 17 years. Maybe next year...

Great photo. Corgis are the best. I have wanted to build a 7 replica but alas I would not be comfortable in one. Unless I made it single-seater!

Can't get much better than a street-legal go-kart...

Unless you're an absolute mammoth of a man, which I assume you're not since you drive a sports car, you can fit into a large-sized Caterham or one of the many clones made for bigger guys. There are wide bodies and long bodies and all types.

There is a huge kit-car/homebuilt scene behind Lotus 7 replicas ( http://locostusa.com/forums/ ). I've wanted to build one for some time now. Maybe once I get rid of a few of the cars I already have at the moment.

I almost bought one of the originals in England about 1970 when I was 21. It was 500 quid for a street legal track car. I couldn't really afford it and that's why i'm still alive today.

My favourites are the Hayabusa engine versions. Try Youtube to see some wild videos with turbo and 2.6L V8 versions.
