9" or 9.5" wheels? - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

Hey guys I've been browsing for some shoes for once I get my frs (we'll see how the test drive goes) and I'm wondering if 9 inch or 9.5 inch all around would be a huge detriment to the car. I've found some Rota's (let the flaming begin, sorry i dont have an extra 4000 for volks lol) that I really like but the wheels are very wide. I'm thinking though that wheels that wide will totally change the driving characteristics of the car and maybe for the worse, I'll be running 18" wheels. Also ill be lowering it to fill the wheel gap and it should be fine because the frs comes with fenders that dont need rolling. And no im not looking to be hellaflush i would actually like to have fun with the car. Any input?

It really depends on the wheel. a 18x9.5 RPF1 still weighs only 17.4lbs

If you are okay lowering for looks and buying Rotas, I'd say "wheels that wide will totally change the driving characteristics of the car and maybe for the worse" is a non-issue. The fact that there is no way to preserve stock scrub radius with wheels that wide shouldn't affect your decision at all.

I think I've set my decision to work Emotion cr-kais white 18x8.5+35 in the front 18x9.5+30 in the back but for tyres I haven't quite decided what I'm planning on running. They are a little more expensive at around 500 a wheel but they will probably be a better choice then Rota's in the long run. I'm trading in my current car for the frs if goes as planned so I should have a little extra cha Ching for some decent wheels and coil overs/springs.

Depends on what type of beneficial we are talking about. It will likely increase push a lot on this platform. Might be ok for people without RWD experience.

Yea i've had pretty much no RWD experience. The only vehicle i have had that was RWD was a Nissan Pathfinder and you know i loved taking that thing on the twisties

. Staggering will keep the car from whipping out the rear as easy on cornering am I correct? The Greddy FR-S has staggered wheels with the same width and you'd think professional tuners know what they're doing.

They did it for looks. That was a show car. Don't stagger.
