Oil Cooler

For those of you that track, which oil cooler are you using and where/how did you mount it. Pictures and as much info/input as possible is greatly appreciated.
So far, I am thinking of deleting the windshield washer reservoir and mounting the cooler there, may replace the stock crash beam in favour of a custom "bash bar" to help with mounting and possibly better air flow.
Thank you! (this a track only car).

Also, at what point should I consider changing the Supercharger oil? Anyone have the viscosity and capacity?
you use 75W/80 synthetic gear oil and it doesn't take much about 150ml as you fill up to the bottom of the threads in the oil plug in the front cover

eaton say the oil is generally good for 100K miles but if you think the gears are rattling then probably worth changing it

I have one badge in new condition. Never installed it in my car, because I am badgeless. If interested send me a message.

Hello there,

haven't been here for a while but I want to ensure that everything is ok with me and my supercharged BRZ. It's winter time, so my car is in a garage since mid November , permanently connected to a Ctek battery charger. In a few weeks it will have it's sixth birthday, and still has less than 20 kkm on odo and less than 10 thousand kilometers with Cosworth supecharger. I have a present for it : a smaller supecharger pulley, belt and new air filter. I mostly use my BRZ on highways, and during a hot summer, oil temp raises to 115'C (240'F) when driving 160-180 km/h. Maybe I need an oil cooler?

Best regards

Seb

I have just over 70,000 miles on the car and 50,000 miles (80k km) on the supercharger. I have had the smaller pulley installed the entire time and have installed the Crosstrek OEM oil cooler. I also have a Mishimoto oil catch can. These are my only two aftermarket upgrades...

This car is my daily driver and the performance and reliability are perfect. I have driven it in the snow, on long trips and frequent stop an go traffic. For me, this supercharger has performed flawlessly.

For maintenance, I change the oil, air filter, rotate the tires and empty the catch can and replaced the belt once. I also spray off the mass air flow sensor when I do an oil change. The only problem I ever had out of the car was it wouldn't start one time. One of my coolant hoses back near the firewall had slipped down and was resting on the wire which runs to the starter. It had unplugged this wire and so the car wouldn't start. I wire wrapped the coolant hose so it couldn't fall down again and the problem has never reoccurred.

I get around 29-30 mpg real mileage as calculated from the odometer. It's been through 3 sets of tires and these latest are by far the best for me. I run Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ tires. They outperform the Pilot Sport 4S which I had on before this and have lasted much longer... Plus are cheaper.

This car has such an amazingly smooth power band. It's so linear that it feels almost like an electric car. Cosworth did an amazing job and made this car what it was supposed to be. It's just a shame that they don't make them anymore because they really had something here....

Hi All,

Anyone experienced blue smoke in the exhaust after tracking the car? The track I went has some elevation change and two other NA BRZ/86 has similar issue after 2 sessions as well. Two mechanics at site suspect that it is the PCV issue.

I have a catch can already but we think the oil somehow suck back in to the engine (due to the g force?) but not 100% sure. The blue smoke on my car is relatively less than the other two 86/brz. After driving on the hwy under 4k rpm for 30 min, all the blue smokes are gone and things are back to normal.

Any suggestions on how to prevent this?

Do we need this for our supercharger?

Haha - came here to see if anyone else was having this! It only happens very briefly for me on a cold start after being on track, and happened after two morning sessions last time. The tracks I've been on so far have elevation changes too (next one is flat, will be interesting to see if that makes a difference). I guess it's reassuring to know it's not just me lol - will check out the PCV valves linked here.

I changed the PCV and it worked all the blue smoke are gone. Also make sure not to overfill engine oil

Good luck finding the kit! They were rare even when Cosworth was still producing them simply due to their outlandish price. Still, it was an amazing kit and super reliable when I had it on my FR-S and the Cosworth calibrations needed minimal tweaking. Sadly, by this point if you can find one, the only support you will get is from a parts bin (if you gotta fix the kit) and a different tuner who may or may not have tuned a Cossie kit before.
