Would it be worth it to replace clutch at 40k miles?
I'm having my transmission replaced as part of a warranty claim. The dealer offered to replace the clutch assembly with no labor cost for $900 + tax. Would it be worth it to have them change it?
My clutch pedal has a squeak sound and some resistance at the last 1/3 of travel, especially in the cold or on the first start of the day. It's been like this for the last couple of years. Lately, I also hear some rotating squeak when I'm engaging the clutch pedal in the morning. Looking online, it seems that the part a lot of people have a problem with is the throw out bearing, not the clutch. It looks like Subaru has come out with a new design for the throw out bearing as of 2017. Would it make sense to just replace the throw out bearing, instead of the entire assembly? The labor cost would be minimal due to them already taking the transmission out. Looks like 0.2 hours of labor from their book: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...3&postcount=65 |

$900 is too much for a clutch/pressure plate. The stock clutch should last much longer than 40k miles. I would replace the throw out bearing but not the clutch.

If you have been the only owner of the car and hadn't abused the clutch, I'd leave it alone unless it looks abused. Make sure they lub up the clutch fork. humfrz |

I had a Suzuki SX4, bought it with like 32k miles on the clock. Sold it @ 122k miles and now it has about 150k miles with the stock clutch still intact.

Ouch. That's way too expensive. Clutch kit should be about $220-250. So if you want a new clutch kit get it yourself and give it to the dealer to install. I agree, get that TOB replaced anytime the trans comes out.
Once your out of warranty I would go to Neal @ theracersline in concord he does great work at good prices. |

If you are replacing the throw out bearing make sure to get the updated version.
30502-AA150 is the updated bearing part number from Subaru. I have heard the Toyota part is cheaper but I have not checked for myself. |
