Toyota plans 4 door RWD sedan version of GT-86 sport car, here is a rendering

Ran across this article this morning. Thought I share it, and sorry if its a repost.

Quote:
There’re report that Toyota developing a sedan version of the Toyobaru,Toyota FT-86, since 2010.But now Autointrends got the latest rendering and we considers it the prettiest that Autointrends ever seen it the past few year!!.The picture is generated by Japanese Mag-X.

It seem that the sedan version will import front half styling of the FT-86 Or the GT-86 that they called in Europe (when it get European premiere in 2012 Geneva motorshow or Toyota 86 that they dubbed in Japan) Although the styling of the sedan version is not yet finalize but many source expect bumper, grille, bonnet and headlight is to be the same with the coupe version. While the rear styling from the rear door to rear bumper will be all new design which should be sedan with rear roof’s slope like the 4 door coupe car.

The car will get lengthen wheel base from 2,570 mm to 2,670 mm. and overall length is expect to increase from 4,240 mm to around 4300 mm to 4400 mm.

It will power by Subaru’s newly developed, horizontally opposed, 1,998cc, four-cylinder boxer engine, Toyota has added its D-4S technology. With separate twin injectors for both direct and port injection which carry from the original version.

The car will ready by 2014,Around a year delay from original planed.

I'm cool with a roadster, but not this. Let's not turn this into a Toyota 3-series, shall we?

thats it, they are pushing this model too much into different models right now. how about fixing up all the problems then start having ideas about newer models.

I'm all for it. Let's see this 4-door, and a 3-door hatch, 5-door hatch, and a 2-seat sports car version too, I say!

Should come in ~2900 lb., whereas the lightest-weight 3-sedan is 3300 lb.

More reasonably lightweight/low-c.g. rwd offerings in more configurations = better as far as I'm concerned

I'd drive it. I'm kind of ambivalent about all these different versions of the 86 coming out. I like the idea of all the variation, but the thing is everyone is going to own one. They're gonna wind up more like a generic Civic model, than an enthusiasts car.

I think I can live with that though, as long as the core formula stays the same, it may be the second genesis of the enthusiast's car. But that will only work if everyone else gets off there ass and starts making cars like that (looking at you Honda).

The drive to do this model variation is to help pay for the R&D bill to build the chassis in the first place. If they need to make a bunch of variations to be able to offer the car at all than so be it. Personally I don't even like the idea of the convertible. IMO anything without a roof isn't a real car!

I have to see better photos/rendering on a sedan 86/FR-S; but if you are reading TOYOTA, please make a shootingbrake 86 (& FR-S for US) ASAP!!!

I will never understand why people are so worried about whether a lot of people drive their car, or few.

I *LOVE* to see other S2000s, RX-7s, and 240Zs on the road, because they're so damn nice to look at! Same would apply here as far as I'm concerned.

Seeing a ton of FT86-based cars on the road wouldn't make them "like a generic Civic". Unless the next Civic is rwd. Which would be fantastic!

I'm happy to see other FR-S/BRZ around. It wouldn't bother me to see more of them.

What I don't like is diluting the car by adding fifteen million variants. The reason I like seeing S2ks and RX-7s and 240Zs is that they didn't compromise with those cars - they stayed sports cars. They didn't make a sedan version or a hatchback version or a whatever version - your choice was 2dr coupe or 2dr roadster. Mazda has done just fine keeping the Miata the Miata. I'd like to see the FT86 remain that pure.
