My new DD 2004 Subaru Forester
Hello fellow twin enthusiasts. Just purchased this gem for a winter/daily driver/rally car. I am pretty excited. For some odd reason I have always wanted one. I bought her for $1800 and she needs some work. She needed an upstream O2 sensor. While I was there I re-assembled the entire exhaust because there wasn't a flange on it that wasn't leaking. She also needs a front wheel bearing (go figure) but besides that shes a strong runner. I am going to go ahead and assume the timing belt/water pump has never been replaced and I will be replacing those. The previous owner "rusted out" one of the front fenders and sticker-bombed the other So I need to replace those and the blackened tail lights. Here she is.... what do you think?
5 Speed - Tien S-tech springs - Some aftermarket high viz yellow wheels - CX Racing cat-back - aem cold air intake

Very nice find, especially for $1800. A bit of work and a bit of time and that's going to be an awesome DD.

OP, that wagon you got is such a good looking body style and an indestructible platform. I have 2007 Forester which my wife drives and we've put 235,000 miles on it. We also still have the 1999 legacy outback wagon that she used to drive. It has 210,000 miles on it. I'm a huge fan of Subaru.

I didn't even know that the rusted fender was a thing that people do. I've never seen it. Did they strip it and let it rust then clear coat it?

I would bet the rusty fender is salvageable. Sand (grind if necessary) it down since it's probably all surface, then prime and paint. If one fender is still sticker bombed, get a 3M Eraser Wheel and take them off with that. Heat gun may work too but will likely take longer. Tails are easy too. Wet sand until the spray is off and then spray clear over them. High grit wetsand the clear and then polish. All in all, sounds like a great buy for what you paid! |

Yah. Its big with the euro guys and muscle car guys. They strip the fender, then apply salt water. Let it sit for a while then clear over it. A lot of the muscle car guys like the natural rusted look of their car will just clear over it. I like it when the muscle car guys do that but it has no place on this car.
