Sure, they are going to hand out 25,000 crate engines. Makes perfect business sense.
Stop being sarcastic its just 25000 x $8000 totalling $200 million. I'm sure they have that in their sofa cushions.

Probably more than the total profit they have made off the whole run of these cars to date.

They tend to not like to lose that much even if it is only half of their annual toilet paper bill.

Realistically, they probably do. A handful of wrongful death lawsuits would quickly surpass $200 million.

Yeah but like @Tcoat says they'd rather not lose that. Whether its to crate motors, wrongful death, or toilet paper.

I have little doubt that their legal team has calculated to probability of a death occurring from failure and considered it in the whole picture.

Well the toilet paper is in the operational budget so it doesn't count.
Not joking either.

i.e. basically nothing. Of x number of engines that would fail, it would have to die in the middle of the road, then get run over by a tractor trailer.

It happens, look at Syracuse, but that statistic would be very very small.

Anyone consider driving the car to another dealership and trading it in right after picking it up from the recall? Seems like the only way to not get screwed when a rod spins after a 1000 miles.

We had a red ‘13 with 6000 miles traded in with recall notice on the front seat. Hasn’t left the lot since the work was done, doubtful anyone buying it will have any idea.

or trade it in before the recall like the person above did.

I have my own plan...we are retiring and moving south at the end of this year and will be going down to one car. Gonna sell the BRZ back to the Subaru dealer without the recall being done and let them deal with it.

Subaru will give you an extra trade in bonus towards a new model if you trade in a car that needs this recall.

I should be getting my car back with the rebuilt engine today, if they find nothing else wrong. They have had to fix oil leaks so it's been delaying the return of my car. Glad they're checking everything.
