Read a few articles saying that the 260mph top speed is just the road limited speed, wonder what the actual top speed will be. They also actually plan on making money on this one.

The difference between a Bugatti and every other super/hyper car out there is that Kimi Rakkonen can take everything else around corners at 135 and hit 215 in the straights. Whereas Betty White can drive a Bugatti 220 mph while sipping a starbuck's. This is a very specific kind of engineering in all that Bugatti ugly.

Launched at the Geneva Motor Show and being already sold out, the Chiron will end its maker's money-losing hypercar chapter.

At least this is what TheVerge claimes, quoting the firm's boss, Wolfgang Durheimer.

"We did our homework in every dimension. This car over its lifetime, with 500 cars and a base price of €2.4 million ($2.6 million), is adding into the bottom line result of Bugatti and we are making money with this project."

It is estimated that Bugatti lost between $4 and $6 million for each Veyron sold, the first project after its revival under the VW Group umbrella. Durheimer wants to keep all money inside, for a "next project".

What might that be? "I can't get the idea of a four-door limousine out of my head", he has already said.

Besides the new super-saloon, which is believed to join the Chiron over the next few years, an electric car might follow it, but this will be all because an SUV is definitely out of the question.

Forget the idea of less being more; the Bugatti Chiron is a reminder of how much more can be.

The ambitious specs were revealed yesterday, but the Chiron is also about creating a stir in front of large crowds, such as the ones at the Geneva Motor Show. The asking price of $2.6 million is just as heart-stopping as the idea that it's a 260-mph, 1,500-horsepower middle finger to the laws of physics.

Amongst the hyper Koenigseggs and Ferraris and Lamborghinis, the Chiron represents Bugatti well in the world of insanely fast cars. Every decision on the outside was made for the sake of keeping the car on the ground and slicing through the air.

Unlike others in this class, however, Bugatti remembers details inside and out are everything when the price of entry is this high. And that passersby might like to look at the 8.0-liter W16 as it propels the car very, very forward.

Here's a nagging thought, however. Make no mistake the Chiron is a Bugatti because it looks an awful lot like the Veyron. It makes sense given the lineage. But imagine if there was no need to make the Chiron obviously a new Veyron and Bugatti just made something breathtakingly beautiful instead. Bugatti isn't the first brand to exploit square-shaped LED headlights, after all.

Given the long history of art with the Bugatti name, there was more than enough inspiration around to do something ... more than a new Veyron.

Of course, that won't be your first thought the day you come across a Chiron in the wild. Or even your first word around it, because you'll be speechless.

Read a different article about this just this AM. What this one doesn't tell is the changes they made to the car (mostly in the name of safety) for the speed run. They removed the passenger seat, put in a roll cage, and made some other minor changes.

I have to say I've never really cared for the styling of the Chiron, but this one in black and orange is nice!

Chiron owners shitting out 86's every time they go in for a regular service.

Bugatti's white glove experience is exclusive to the brand. No other manufacturer handles their customers like bugatti.

Rumor mill suggests it'll be the upcoming Chiron supersport, following the theme from the black and orange veryon super sport press car.

I'm sure they fiddled with the engine beyond turning up the boost to make that extra 100hp. It's never as simple as turning up boost with Bugatti.
