So what ECUtek software do you need to make changes to the ECU yourself?

Is it available for non "master-tuners" ? and if so, what is the name of the software and the cost?

I searched a little but was unable to find more info

Thanks

EcuTek tuning software is for EcuTek Dealers aka tuners.

A master dealer is a dealer that can sell cables.

I'm pushing for end-user tuning..

EcuTek is tuning software for professional tuner.

You need to be a EcuTek dealer to make custom maps.

If you are a protuner you can buy ecutek's tuning software and make your own custom maps.

But for right now everyone is buying EcuTek cable's so they can flash in a map that's been created for them.

End-user only can flash and datalog it.

So end user tuning isn't available AT ALL currently, huh? This is disappointing.
@Visconti Has ECUtek given any info at all regarding a timeline when they'll allow such a thing (if ever)?

Also out of curiosity... What does it cost someone to become a tuner/dealer/etc where you can tune yourself? I have experience tuning some other vehicles and I don't want to get into this for money but I'm curious of the cost and if it was reasonable I'd do it for myself.

Basically to me, to spend $900-1000 and still be at the mercy of someone in another city/state/country etc is pretty ridiculous. I realize these cars aren't a year old yet but if there's a way for the ECU to be edited, it's just programming the back end/a GUI for end users and giving them a way into their own ECU once they have a license... That doesn't take that long to do.

I guess what bothers me about ECUTek is, they force you to purchase a "license" and that basically allows SOMEONE ELSE access to your tuning, but not the user. Every other style of tuning that you need a license for (like HPTuners, LS1edit, SCTFlash, etc) gives you access to your own ECU. To me it just comes off as price gouging.
As a result of this I've been hesitant to do anything other than the brakes/wheels/tires/suspension on my car (besides an intake)... If there isn't a user-programmable solution in the next few months I honestly might sell the car for something with better support... I want a car I can track and while the FRS is a great platform... I'm not short on money and the automotive marketplace isn't short on good track car alternatives.

/rant

Anyway thanks for the help, the more info coming the better.

I left the other thread thinking you still didn't believe me that a license was required for every ECU. Good to see you come around it.

I had a PM in to FT86 Speedfactory, he finally responded and confirmed.
I replied saying the post is a little mis-leading.

Like I said... it's annoying you need to buy a license, then only can load maps. Every other software I've used where you can only load maps doesn't require a license to do so, and if you DO get a license then you can edit the maps yourself. So it's a little backwards to me for ECUtek to require a license just to load maps, and then not even offer a way for the end user to alter them. It's a rip-off to me.

Like I said there's pros and cons of every product. Be patient if you do now like the available products as open source tuning may eventually arrive

I guess you never used UpRev before...

Licensing is just how they ensure they get paid.

EcuTek is a small company and has a hard enough time support all the requests I put in.. If they had end-user software they'd get nothing done.

I'm looking into other options but won't be able to discuss anything until next week when one of the owners is back.

So yes, we know you want end user software..

Exactly what I've been doing. However if people don't know you want something they may not ever know to make it... Hence why I'm speaking up

No, I've used SCTFlash and HPTuners primarily, and other systems on a lesser level.

I'm glad to hear you're looking into options, hopefully they can expand staff or come up with a solution.

To be clear, I'm not trying to say ECUTek is bad or works poorly - As it seems like some of the replies I'm getting (like "then don't buy it") seem to come off as if people have the idea I'm bashing the product... I'm not bashing the product, I have no doubt it is good... People wouldn't use it if it was riddled with issues. Perhaps age and time in the car industry (which it seems many in the FRS/BRZ forum are lacking, no offense, this crowd besides vendors seems to be very young) has made me jaded to a point about tuning software/Engine Management systems ... but coming from many years of tuning cars with the aforementioned systems, its VERY frustrating to see a company only support vendors and not its direct users - I'm just voicing that.
