Thank you. I'm running just Tein Flex Z coil overs and SPC/Whiteline rear LCA. She used to be my daily driver until I got my Yaris to serve that duty, so I wanted coil overs that were more compliant to the terrible roads we have up here. I wouldn't do any auto-x with them, at least at the height I set them too. The front are beyond maxed out damper length-wise with the spring locking collars removed and the springs at the correct pre-load. The rear damper length is at the lowest it'll go, and I had to lower the height a tad bit more using the pre-load.

I can't remember off the top of my head what the camber specs are, but I believe I put the front at the most negative setting the Flex Z offers, and the rear left was able to go within OEM spec, and for some reason the rear right was not able to and is around -1.9*.

Here are clearer pics of my set up. They're older pics, but the alignment specs are the same.

Why don't you consider a 17x8 wheel? That way you can use a 215/45, 225/45, or a 245/40 size tire. It's the best compromise between your two sizes. As mentioned i wouldn't consider the TRD forged wheels as there are better options available. Also, if you do go for autoX then i would consider the 17x9 for sure but a 17x8 shouldn't be a problem with grippy tire either.

I second the 17x8 wheel size. Lots of good options. 3 of my favorite are RPF1, 949 6UL, and koing hypergrams.

Disadvantage: Lot of money for a minimal increase in tire width; wheel design is just 'ok'
Another option with similar advantages to these may be the STi 17x7.5 wheels. They are made by Enkei. They aren't forged but they have the MAT barrel so are fairly strong and light. Here where I am in Aus they are far more readily available than the TRD.

After giving this way too much thought and very nearly buying the wedssports, I ended up just getting some re-71r tires for stock wheels for now. At some point, I may get the TRD forged wheels, but decided against a larger width aftermarket wheel. This summer I will be doing a lot of autoxing and want to stay in C Stock class. Can stay there with the TRD wheels and can use the re-71rs with those if I want, but going wider would get me into modified class and I don't want to go there. Not a huge gain from the TRD wheels, would mostly just be a looks issue, so that's why I am holding off on those. I could do another 17x.5 wheel, but haven't found any I really like.

@xdavidx, props for you driving an 86 and working an executive level job. Do you get any weird looks (serious question)?

I'd be more conservative and would be driving a Lexus/some boring car, but that's just me.

Ha, the site lead at my job drives a Golf R, if anything it just makes him more interesting. There are a bunch of AMG and M cars owned by the executives under him at work too. If he pulled up in a 488 that would be showing off.

I think that looks pretty “normal”. Golf R just looks like a 20k base Golf for the general population. It says you like to keep it low key. Executives driving AMG and M cars are pretty normal too.

An executive driving an impractical 2 door Toyota feels like it might raise an eyebrow. I just picture someone wearing a 2 piece suit getting out of a twin lol.

You don't worry so much what people think about you when you realize how little anyone actually does.

I get a lot more weird looks when I take my s1000rr

I’ve driven to customer/prospect meetings in my BRZ wearing a 3-piece suit on more than one occasion. Only issue is I have to remove the tension plate from the CG Lock so it doesn’t crumple or tear my suit. No issues otherwise.

How do you like the cg lock? This is the first car I plan to use one in since it real is a dual purpose situation for me.

heres what you do
get the 17x8 enkei TS-10 from tire rack ~$215/rim
heres how they look on the 86:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=131551

put whatever tires you want on them, but youll ll be hardpressed to outdrive BFgoodrich Sport Comp 2's. thats a lot of tire for the price ($130)

my ts-10's with sport comp 2's just showed up from tire rack, mounted and balanced baby! except i got gold rims, not black. black looks OEM+

make sure they send you the proper 56.1mm hub rings. they sent me 54.1mm thinking i was in a '19 corolla.

Sort of off-topic, but basically it does what it says on the package. You may have trouble if you're a bigger guy with it digging into your side and it's impossible to carry a gun strong-side when you're using it, but otherwise it works good and does exactly what it claims and no more.
