@Magoo did you unmarry your OFT before bringing back your broken car after the recall?
You had a lucky guess. :P

Regardless it's still a BS excuse to get off the hook for shit work.

Again, not Subaru/Toyota but.... our engines come that way. Either a long block, swap injectors, manifolds, all electronics and harness. Or complete minus accessories. Manifolds, injectors, harness all ready to go.

It’s an issue of money. The labor charge wouldn’t be much different, maybe 2 hours less to replace the engine. The parts price would be much higher. Valve springs and seal kit has to be under $500. Our engines are $10k+

I replaced an engine on a new-ish car that was $60k. The whole car was only $65k
If you do the 12 hour recall and then the engine blows you are out for the cost of the recall kit, 12 hours of labor, the cost of a short block (1800) and an additional 24 hours of labor. If you factor all that in then going directly to a full engine swap doesn't look so bad.

i sure don t care if I had right or not, i d just want to understand better this thing
What Magoo wrote about what dealer said, seems to me that they found something that gives them leverage against him, but what in particular?
it would be also interesting for people who care about warranty of a new car but tune it without worrying too much

I don't have access of course to the ecu like the dealers have, i just have a friend, that has a friend , that is a tech at a Subaru dealer and he said with a software called GTS (?) they can see a hystory of everything, rpm reached, eventual rpm overrange and don't know what else, and those things shouldn't just erase by themself with just a battery disconnect..
but got nothing more to it than that

I just put the stock tune back on the car.

They stopped short of calling me out on it, said it was consistent with what they've seen in the past with the ECU being reflashed and they were going to run with that and not take the blame.

So the best for people doing the recall is to just keep stock tune after the recall and wait a bit so if breaks like yours at least they won't have the dealer against them regarding if the ecu was reflashed or not

that s very unfortunate for you not much you can do about it..

Unless he can find proof they made errors on the rebuild. For example it’s hard to blame a tune for a plugged pickup screen.

I'd suggest you wait till it's paid off - then you won't be making payments on a non running car.

(shit - I've been reading too many recall threads - )

Picked mine up this morning. Seemed to run just as before during my 15 min drive home. I checked oil finding it at normal level and clean. Guess I will check to make certain it has antifreeze and not just replaced with just water
Odd thing is the odometer did not increase a single mile between drop off and when I picked it up. No test drive needed ??? Repairs done within 48 hours after I dropped it off.

What stinks is normally the car would just sit in the garage for another couple of months waiting for dry / Spring weather. Now I feel compelled to put some winter miles in to find any recall work issues if present.

I reckon that would be a good idea -

I have been expressing my professional opposition to this idiotic recall since I first heard about it. All the springs that were going to fail have already done so long ago.

That's where I'm strongly thinking about putting my money. -
