Just removed a glob of tree sap from my FJ Cruiser.
Ice cubes. Do it in the shade. Keep it on there and rubbing it, slowly. Remember that your trying to freeze it so that it will flake off. The one I just dealt with was a fairly big sticky glop, more than I have deal with before. Took a little work but came off with a lot less work than other methods. |

I've had pretty good luck with the Toyota tar / bug remover. What works best depends some on what kind of tree the sap is from.

Most bug and tar removers will work...I use one from Stoner. (Be sure to thoroughly wash them off.) Alternatively, Meguiar's G25024 Wash+ will remove this stuff very well...it has an abrasive in it. IPA will work also. All of these will remove wax, and some can remove/reduce sealants.
IMO Bug and tar pads can be hugely helpful in that they can often remove nasty buildup without having to use a chemical that strips your wax/sealant/coating (or they just make the process faster with) and they do not scratch paint. If you have a coating or sealant on the car, one of these sponges plus a sealant-safe remover is often sufficient IMO. |

I used something like hydrogen peroxide and it worked too! Goo Gone or nail polish remover as last resort.
Usually if car is well waxed, it falls off with H2O2

I used to park my car under a tree and it would get hammered daily with sap and bird poop. At a certain point I had to just bite the bullet and get a simple cheap generic car cover and put it on every time I parked. While that was a huge pain it kept my car looking great and needing washes far less often. Just a thought because washing it so frequently can be a real pain and time sink.

That's why it's handy to use a cheaper car cover and keep a trash bag or something in the trunk to store the car cover of you don't have garage space to store it. Granted this isn't ideal but better than constantly washing and waxing the car every other day. |
