Joking? The frs/brz twins are cool and all, but positively swollen and bloated next to an S2000. And with all those additional/unnecessary "body trim and curve lines" added in an apparent attempt to disguise just how much bulk was added, particularly up front, to the original concept's lower and trimmer look.

370Z is, obviously, a bloated, hideous, pained-looking toad. Not in the same ballpark as the S2k, and does serve to make the 86 twins look mucho better-o in comparison.

I'm surprised by all the negative comments. Does this Convertible make your Coupés any worse? If you don't like the Convertible nobody forced you to buy it. If the Convertible goes to production and sells, it may, and I'm sure it will, generate more profit and this will permit us to get hard-core versions and other stuff.

You're on a forum, full of diehard fans dedicated to a car we love, and you don't expect us to be at least a little elitist?

I am with Dezoris on this one. The twins have a long list of things that are "Almost" right and they should be addressed before building a convertible that is "Almost" good.

If I may suggest a place to start, fix the F**king transmission.

How about first generating more profit and increasing the customer base before making this car perfect?

I expect it to do about as well as the S13 240SX convertible. Not as good a sporty 2+2 as the coupe, and not anything like as good an open roadster as the Miata.

Time/money/engineering effort that would have been better invested in something truly cool and not already covered by something better in the marketplace. Like how about a cab-rearward 2-seat coupe version as a modern 2000GT?

Give the people a 'go' variant, not a 'show' variant.

Real world sales figures disagree with both of those points.

The closest analogy would be the Cayman, which since going on sale has outsold the Boxster every year Porsche has provided separate sales figures. What's even more interesting is that 911 sales actually increased the first year the Cayman went on sale.

The difference between a Miata coupe and an RX-7 would be even greater, due to the polarizing effect the rotary seems to have on people.

there arent real world sales figures. there isnt a miata coupe. im not sure the porsche thing translates since there is a lot going on over there. things like status and demographic are entirely different between the two. the gap between a miata and an rx8 is nowhere near that of a cayman/boxter and 911. if that thought process would carry across brands then i would expect a 4 door miata since the panamera dominates all the p cars.

the biggest selling point of the miata has been its top down capabilities. i dont tihnk its any different now despite what the typical forum member wants.

until actual specs are released I will hold complete judgement. BUT!.....if asked for initial opinion with an assumption of no HP increase, then it's a big no no! I will not buy a BRZ86 convertible that has no power increase and no maintained chassis rigidity!

This was not made for the performance guys, this is why you all have your coupes.

This was made to sell to young women, and old women who want to feel young, plain and simple. I showed this to my girlfriend. She loved it.

i agree in principal with this because the miata was always built more for show
direct from the factory, and although it handles exemplary as a stock car,it mostly had the shit modded out of it to make it a different car. as mentioned, the ones that don't get modded are driven by women, and "others" for show, not go.
