Nope, you don't need one for this. Small gamble with minimal downside, that might save you some money.

Last week, I saw a car get pulled over when he switched from a left turn only lane to the middle lane to go straight. I'm assuming he got pulled over for not using his signal when making the switch because there didnt appear to be any other reason (e.g., he didnt cut anyone off or anything). Cop just pulled out and pulled him over almost immediately after he passed the intersection.... womp womp. Try not to give them any reasons whatsoever.

I've gotten 3 speeding tickets over the years. Not once did the officer ask me how fast I was going. They just straight up told me I was getting a ticket for speeding, wrote the ticket, and were on their way.

You can do traffic school to erase the point once every 18 months.

Look up The Ticket Clinic. We have this service in FL and it looks like they have offices in CA as well.

Might get stuck with court costs, but zero points and doesn't use up your traffic school option.

I'm guilty of speeding too =( It was around 300 bucks. 400+ after traffic school.
gt me going 64 in 40. It was right after the freeway exit + down hill. It was actually omw to the 86 fest in livermore.

Put a damper on the trip, but whatevs. Paid it and moved on.

I also started to now just use cruise control on highways. Lesson learned. Not worth the trouble going through the ticket process/traffic school hassle.

So most of you ya'll just ended up paying the ticket and going to traffic school. I was reading something online like only 5% of tix are contested and half of them are dismissed

What you should do is go to court and say this exactly.

"Your Honor, I have a clean driving record and this was the first time I have ever received the ticket. May I please get a fine reduction?"

Also request traffic school.

Don't count of the officer not showing up...that's not a high chance. But! A fine reduction because of a clean record is highly possible.

If you have time definitely go to court.
As Pmok said, it will never hurt and might help you save some money.
In my case since I got caught on I-5, the court is too far so I just paid for the fine and traffic school.

All three times my ticket was in a different county than where I lived, so it didn't make much sense to show up in court. I'd end up paying more to show up.

That said, even if it was local I'm not sure I would bother. Sure, you can play the lottery and get lucky if the cop is a no-show, but I'd have to drag it out, take time off work to show up in court, etc. I'd rather just make my biennial donation to the great state of California and move on.

from speedtrap.org:

Dumbarton Bridge SR 84 Westbound Newark, California

Between the toll plaza and the bridge, one mile plus, 3-lanes divided hwy with shoulder, looks like a freeway. CHP bushwacks travelers with radar guns as they accelerate from the toll plaza. Natural speed is 65 mph but limit is set at 55. Only one sign of ordinary size, easily unnoticed. CHP has one or two units (or more) most evenings between 4 and 8 PM. and some Sat and Sunday mornings. Easy pickins for them.
