Tree seed ball dents - easily fixable?
Hey guys,
So you know those brown spikey seed balls that fall off certain trees? Well apparently those turn green and get super heavy during a certain time of the year. I did not realize that, so I continued to park routinely under a tree that drops them, not thinking anything of it because when they are brown they are pretty weightless. I'm pretty sure the tree is called a "gumball festival" tree. So now my BRZ has 20 or so small dents all over it, which are very noticeable in person. The ones on the hood in particular are easily spotted from30+ feet away because of the way the reflections warp around the perfect circular dent. Here is a quick video I shot on my phone for visual reference: Needless to say it's driving me crazy haha. I tried washing my car with fairly hot water and a lot of pressure to see if they would just pop back out, but it's a no go. Any ideas or recommendations to repair it would be greatly appreciated. |

PDR - ask for a discount rate for multiple dents. Plus they should be easier to access to than dents on the side.

Cool, thanks guys. I'm pretty uneducated when it comes to anything regarding repairs of any kind, so I didn't realize PDR was even a thing.
I will definitely check around. |

Geez, our hoods are delicate aren't they? So they must have only used one sheet of aluminum foil to make the hoods.
Those spiky seed balls also have earned a real bad reputation: https://americanorchard.wordpress.co...n-the-suburbs/ |

Yep, like mentioned, a PDR (Paintless Dent Repair) person should be able to tap out/suck out those little dents in no time at all.
So, if you can't find another place to park, you may wish to look into a cover for your car. humfrz |

You also gotta watch out for walnut trees. Damn squirrels chuck those walnuts at my hood.
PDR guys can definitely massage them out from the inside using their hook tools. On the hood they sometimes have to drill a small hole if its under one of the support frames. |

Surprisingly no. Not sure if it was just coincidence that it did not, or if the bra actually helped.
I called 3 or 4 places asking for quotes and everyone i talked to said it would cost around $750 to fix both the hood and the roof :/ So much for a cheap fix! Plus they said it's likely that some of them will never come out, due to their location (one is right above the headlight for example). Since so many companies seem to be quoting similar prices, I'm going with Same Day Scratch and Dent Repair. I've used that company for a couple scratches before and they seem pretty good. Seems like no one is willing to pass out a discount of any type though, and actually are claiming that the roof and hood are the most "expensive" areas to fix. So I'm gonna just get the hood done for now, which is quoted for $350. The roof isn't quite as noticeable since it's a more level surface. Same Day should be here on Monday to fix it. |

DANG.....$750 that's more that I was thinking. Maybe once they see how easy they suck out, they will give you a price break.......
As shown in @Impureclient 's reference ...... and if you have to park under that tree ....... I'd make it suffer ...... or make firewood out of it ..... Let us know how it comes out. humfrz |

yo guys,
So the update on the dents is that I had Same Day Scratch and Dent Repair come out and they were able to fix virtually all the dents on the hood, even the ones that were really close to the edges. Also, before the repair process took place we noticed some additional dents that actually were indeed on the clear bra. But they were able to fix the dents without any damage to the bra, which was pretty cool. Took a little over an hour and unfortunately the $350 price was final. So even though my wallet hates me now, I feel pretty good about the work that was done since I can't even tell it was ever covered with dents. I would grab some photos or video but it's been pretty rainy here for the past few days. The roof is still messed up, but I really don't want to pay another $350, especially since the dents on the roof aren't as noticeable (with the exception of 2 of them that are right above the windshield). So I'm just gonna shop around some more to see if anyone can do it cheaper. |
