As someone going through those transmission issues, I hear ya. The SY is really dope though. Congrats!

Yeah the cosworth supercharger is amazing. Eventually I'll get another but I'm in no hurry this time around.

I'm debating on getting a blower myself. Part of me wants to do it, another says to just fork over the extra $$ for an LS swap and make the power a bit more reliably. Very extreme solution I know lol.

The other part of me enjoys that I can track this so cheaply and wants to keep it that way. Oil cooler and Ohlins and leave it there.

What tells you that you won't have again transmission issues or in general other issues? If you are missing the supercharger, then you should have bought something else with more power. Not a BRZ again...

Because the transmission issue he was experiencing is super common across the board. I'm experiencing it and I'm pretty much stock. Three others from my local 86 group have dealt with it too - only one was boosted.

I honestly couldn't find a better car under $40k.

I am not aware of the transmission problem you mention. Any links? I was inactive for a period of time, so I might missed something.

Do you think $40k are enough to build a complete car with a Cosworth supercharger? You 'll need many other changes to support the more power.

Just do a search for throw out bearing, clutch groan, you should find it.

Yes very easily. If you buy the car for $20k with 30k miles on it, you have way more than enough.

Let's talk brand new though. $26k.
SC and tune 7k (ballpark)
Clutch 1.5k
Oil cooler $750
Wheels and tires - 2k
RCE springs - $400

Still puts you under 40k. If you know how to turn a wrench you can install the SC yourself and save some money that way. You can also use a very conservative out of the box tune and not pay expensive tuning fees.

Personally I would buy used. Used car, used SC kit, used wheels, and used coilovers (maybe). I would buy new oil cooler and clutch kit.

I didn't get something else because nothing else appeals to me. And while I miss the supercharger I can live without it. But that doesn't instantly warrant buying a whole different car just because I want FI.

Just figured I'd bump this cuz it was nice to go down nostalgia lane. I do miss this car and think from time-to-time how it would have been if I had gone a different route. I guess I probably wouldn't have gone so bonkers and simply done the Cosworth Stage 1.3 with their manifold, exhaust, and tune. Still, It was fun to think back to the fun I had and the people I met from this car.
