I have read those threads as well. When I reseal the timing cover I am going to be installing the bluemoon baffle and killer B pickup as well. I have some corners at local tracks that are spiking lateral G's pretty hard and it will drop out the oil pressure to the low teens at 4-5k rpm under load. Right now that has me the most concerned. If it looks good I may up redline to 8k to see what happens. I have a spare motor anyway so might as well experiment.

my BRZ is a 2020 and the oil runs 240 most all the time. if I go for a spirited drive, it hits 270 quite quickly.
My oil cooler is on the way. There's no wonder there is a history of rod bearing problems

Your car is stock? Seems very odd that your car runs that high on the drives you describe. Sounds more like your definition of "spirited" is half race mode. At constant 3500-3800 RPM on highways I only ever reach a steady 230. When doing my "spirited" drives whipping higher RPMs around corners and such for a few minutes, I typically don't even reach 230. Though I guess I can't comment on longer periods of time in driving like that, as not only do I not have enough road for that, but I prefer not to reach higher oil temps anyway. But I would have thought it takes a lot more to whip up the BRZ to the 270 range.

The car was stock until last weekend. I added a header, overpipe and front pipe. Only 1000 miles so new tight engine tolerances may be driving the temps up until the engine is properly broken in.

Yeah I know. I would not have expected the temps to get that high that quickly. My spirited drives are pretty spirited, high rpm downshifts and back on the throttle thru corners. Yes its a bit like tracking the car on a track day.

Fortunately, today's oils can stand 270 without much problem. Just means I need to change the oil more often. Of which, I had it changed today at Subaru dealer. I wanted to make sure it got the oil they recommend. So If I have a problem, its on them.

I see. That may certainly explain to some rise of temperatures, the rest being your driving. But yeah, in the end you should be alright with the higher temps, just need good frequent oil changes. Not that I want to jump into a deeper topic, but don't forget that if you're still sitting on 0W-20, the oil pressure is not optimal at such high temperatures. So if you're often seeing these temps, consider going slightly higher oil weight. But I guess your oil cooler should solve that issue if you're getting it soon enough.

They probably won't like a header/op/fp and likely tune when it comes to an engine failure "being on them"

Not to beat a dead horse, but, let me get this straight...

270F is okay = I just change the oil more often

270F is okay but 290F is not okay (20F difference)

Got it

If you wanna know what I think about 290F go back to post #49. In any case it's irrelevant for most of us because a stock car on the hottest track days doesn't see oil temps go over about 272F.

Running just over 270F, I run 0w30 or 5w30 synth during track season. About to switch back to 0w20.

290F is simply LESS okay than 270F. The proper solution to this would be even more frequent oil changes if you are seeing this temperature at times vs. seeing 270F.

Or, an oil cooler

That would be an aftermarket solution which, depending on the product, creates other risks that could lead to harming your engine. A quality product with proper installation is certainly important when going this route, as well as constant maintenance of the cooler for any problems such as leaks, and gauges to insure you are getting the temperatures and pressures you desire (as oil may run too cool for daily applications). Not steering anyone away from oil coolers, but many people have been led to believe the simple solution for oil rising to high temperatures is an oil cooler. Unfortunately, it's more complicated than that, and though it is a viable solution, plenty of research should be done before jumping on the thought that "I'll just get an oil cooler and everything will be all good!"

Yup. There is tons of info on this forum however not all agree. TBH I think a lot of newer people are led to believe taking your car to the track is not a big deal. Maybe for the first while that is true.

These car are street cars that can be tracked. They're not built for racing. You start tracking a car and stressing components and problems will arise.
