Finally got my OFT mounted
Ive been contemplating ways to mount my Tablet FOREVER, and finally had a weird dream about how to mount it last night
I use a Rockform case for my iPhone 5s. It has a badass mounting system on the back and even a magnet. It is an impressive case. I few months ago, I accidentally dropped it in a large spill pan full of 5w-30. I pulled it out quick enough and the phone was fine, but the felt backing on the inside of the case turned into mush. So I bought another case and have had this other one lying around. This pictures show the rest. I cut the case with an air cutting wheel(not the best choice as it melts the plastic) and then use some 3M Double sided tape to adhere it to the back of the OFT. I then ran the cable under the steering column and into the ob2 port. It doesn't interfere with the turn signal and I use the same mounting spot with my phone turned sideways for gps and its perfectly visible in the drivers seat. Heres a link for the case: http://www.rokform.com/iphone5-cases/ I realize $40 is a little steep for a mounting solution, but if you sign up for their email list, I regularly get 20% off coupons and occasionally 40% |

Now that, actually looks like a nice install! How easily does that clip in and out? Just a slight twist?

That's really nice! I gotta try that myself. How sturdy is it? Does it vibrate/shake when you drive?

Great idea and good location. Any particular reason why u cut a case? instead using the universal mount $24.

For those not wanting to permanently glue anything to the back of the OFT, there is suction cup tape! I tested this morning and the OFT didn't budge an inch. This stuff is strong enough to stick to the dash piece and stay there.. Info below.. I'd probably recommend pulling it off and placing in the glovebox while parked in sunny spots as the OFT will bake.
"A 4 in x 1 in piece of the tape is strong enough to hold a 1 lb flat piece of steel to most non-porous, smooth, dry substrates." https://www.inventables.com/technolo...ction-cup-tape
