Small trunk lock hint here …….

I’ve had my 2013, FR-S for about 3 years and never used the key to unlock the trunk.

However, today, at the end of a grocery run, my fob wouldn’t open the trunk, neither would the inside trigger. So, I figured the valet trunk button had been punched.

Remembering there was a lock under that lip on the trunk, I tried to insert the key, it wouldn’t go. I tried it both ways (a throwback to the old days) still no go. Finally, I got it to go part way in and it didn’t want to go any further in or come out.

Finally got it out and squirted some WD-40 up in the lock and a bit on the key and it finally the key would easily go in and out and open the trunk.

If I had been out in a dark, wet parking lot, without access to a spray can of lubricant, the key might have jammed in the lock and/or I might have twisted it off trying to get into the trunk.

So, my suggestion is to give the trunk key lock a shot of lubricant.

Now, wasn’t THAT exciting! .........

Yup, same thing happened to me. Funny enough, it did happen to me while camping, in the middle of no where, in the dark lol. Luckily I had a tiny can of ballistol in my glove compartment which worked just as well. I'm pretty sure I've used this trunk access 2-3 times since I bought the car lol.

Good little bit of maintenance either way.

You needed a little bit of lubrication before you could insert it into the hole? I find that's a pretty common issue..

This thread is only 7 posts long. But I totally derailed somewhere along the way and have utterly forgotten what the OP was all about.

Dont need no lube. I go in raw and turn.

It pops right open. It is dusty though so I threw some wax in there. Maybe some W8 later...but i gotta make sure it don't drip. No one likes it when it drips.
