Finally got my Twin!

I’m very excited to join the FR-S/86/BRZ community, brotherhood/sisterhood, cult?

I recently purchased a 2016 FR-S, and I’m in love. This is my first proper sports car, I’ve previously owned a WRX, GTI, and a few other “sporty” cars. The 86 is hands down the most fun to drive.

Initial driving impressions:
1. this car is low, very grounded to the ground
2. The gear ratios are even shorter than I expected, even cruising in 6th
3. It turns when I just think about turning, it’s awesome. Heavier steering feel than I expected.
4. It’s stiff, the chassis is great, and I have some nice little creaks and rattles to accompany me
5. I have some crickets! Is it weird that I was kind of happy to hear that? Lol
6. In a few days this car has already made me a better driver
7. I will most likely get UEL headers and a Stage 1 tune

I was hoping you guys could help me out with the wing my car has, and which taillights these are? There are so many options out there it’s hard to tell. Thanks!!

WELCOME and congrats!

Looks like somebody just painted the stock tail lights? I seem to remember seeing people do them all red like that.

Definitely stock taillights. Glad you're enjoying the car! Get some summer tires to really unlock the magic of this car. The turn in now is garbage compared to a dedicated stiff high grip tire with a good alignment

Welcome!

As mentioned, they are painted stock tail lights and the spoiler is a TRD (or TRD "style").

LOL! Thanks Dake!

Yeah I was thinking maybe the previous owner painted them. If that’s the case I will probably get new ones.

I think they look good all red, but I don’t want any visibility issues. (So all the idiot drivers around here can see them)

And thank you, it’s a special little car. If the turn in can be better that is crazy. I have a set of 17x7.5 Enkei wheels, with Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 that I will probably use. I know that’s an all season tire but should be better than the Primacys.

Thanks Tuna! I was happy to find one with a wing, and the TRD (or replica) fits the car well. Is there any way I can tell if it’s a genuine TRD part?

Ya if the lights are painted I would guess that "TRD style" is a more accurate description. The fit and finish looks great so no worries about it being a knockoff even if it is.

Another question, how hard would it be to source the volume knob for the Scion head unit? The interior is in great shape, but someone must have been really enthusiastic about changing the volume because it’s gone.

Hi Tcoat! I’ve lurked on here for a while so I know you are a big contributor so nice to meet ya!

I agree, even if it’s a TRD copy, it fits really well, I don’t see any gaps or anything. And the paint is a good match.

I would recommend running your stock tires until they are done. Learn on them so you can identify the weaknesses of the tire when you get into a stickier tire.

Unless you're not going to be really driving that hard(like track/autoX), then upgrade whenever you want, all seasons will help with wet conditions.

Thanks humfrz! I wish a had bought one of the twins sooner!

That’s a good suggestion, I could probably just buy the head unit from a wrecked FR-S
