Casting Sand/Media in oil

I did my first oil change today and I found a small amount(less than a gram) of casting sand/media in my drain pan.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Buddy of mine did his today, said the oil almost looked metallic in the sun. No big grains though.

Are you changing tranny and diff fluid too? I never see any threads about them, only motor oil.

Waynegro... yikes, that's scary. All I noticed about the engine oil was that it was really thin and smelled of gas. I hope that Omni in your profile is a GLH or GLHS.

GuySmily... I changed my trans and diff oils last night. If you have any questions, just ask.

I've noticed it before in a 2001 F150 that I had. If you start with a clean drain pan any sediment you find is from your engine.

I also plan on replacing the gearbox and diff fluids, not sure if I'm gonna go with factory fluids or aftermarket.
Which fluids did you use Roddy?

The Dodge Omni was the first car I owned many years ago.

I currently have a BRZ, and I would be happy with this car in any of its variants , it is a blast to drive.

I went with aftermarket synthetics. I used Redline's MT-90 (75W90 GL4) in the trans, and their 75W85 GL5 lightweight gear oil in the rear end.

Thanks for the reply Roddy.

Did the Redline oil change the shift feel at all?

I'm fairly satisfied with the action of the tranny, just looking to flush out the break-in gunk.
