I drive 85-95% freeway commuting. 30 mile one way to work, the same back. 2 people in car both ways. Average commute speed about 50 mph. Average milage about 30-32 with a best of 36. That's miles/gallons, not the dashboard milage. I have found I get the best milage shifting manually, upshifting when the upshift arrow comes on and keeping the throttle pressure light. I let the transmission downshift on its own so it maintains the highest gear possible for the longest time. Keeping a good distance from the car ahead allows you to soak up the spring effect of stop and go traffic so you don't have to accelerate as hard to catch up with the flow. I find it fun to try to hypermile it cuz what else are you going to do in traffic? I don't use automatic mode because with 6 speeds it constantly downshifts when you apply just a little throttle. YMMV.

Miles per tank is a totally irrelevent measure. This car because of its gearing has a very wide fuel consumption signature based on how it is driven and the climate conditions. Just watch the instantaneous fuel consumption as you go through the gears with different throttle positions. Colder weather will also have an impact. I have observed everthing from averages of 9.0 L/100km {26mpusg}(lots of short trip city) to as little as 5.0 L/100 km{47 mpsug}(all highway) on a tank of fuel. All based on calculation from refueling. The variations are mostly dependent on how, where, and when you drive.

Sounds like your intake and/or the winter blend gasoline... Maybe together they're wreaking havoc. The colder temps usually mean denser air (am I right in thinking this?), so likely needing more fuel to compensate.

After two track days and about 30 autocross passes over 6300 miles, I am showing 30.2 as average mpg according to the gauge in the car.

I drive 12 miles a day to and from work with 9 traffic lights. I typically catch 7 each way and I get 23-25 mpg. If I go all hwy miles, I get 33-35 mpg. Because of my low work commute mileage I tend to drive a lttle spirited driving on the weekend. My average is usually 25-28 which is great fro the fun that I have.
I have an Airaid Intake and Greddy Evo 3 exhaust and still get those great numbers. Sounds like somethings wrong or you have a heavy foot from light to light???

This isn't the first thread to mention horrible gas mileage on the FRS. It sounds like there are some with actual problems. There's no way one can get 150 miles to a tank even if they tried in a FRS. Ok maybe they can if they drove in first gear for all 150 miles. But what it sounds like is there is an issue with a handful of these cars. Perhaps the direct injection pump not working?

I average 28 mpg pretty steady since day one in mixed city/highway driving.

If you read through the thread, and I admit its a lot to read through, the OP had just put on an intake without a tune. He's most likely running way rich.

I've got an aFe dry with Nvidia N1 with no tune. Just filled up Sat night and I'm at 30.2MPG 1/4 tank down with no tune.

I have the same intake as you with a perrin headerback and I average 35-38mpg. But I drive like a grandma. And I usually push just under 400ish miles before I fill up. I don't think it's the intake.

Besides the person with an intake which can obviously affect MPG... Some other things that will affect:
--Driving style is biggest
--Gasoline - what time of year is it? In winter many regions run a winter blend with more ethanol which gets poorer gas mileage
--Weather - what time of year is it? In winter the colder temps often have people warming up their cars longer which does affect gas mileage
--Weather - in colder weather the oxygen is more dense the colder it is and can lead to more fuel in the mix.

I do mostly in town driving. My MPG fell from high 20s to around 22-24 since it got cold here where I live. I have an AT.

I don't drive like crazy, but I'm also not the slowest driver around and my commute takes me on slow interstate traffic, and slow city traffic with a lot of lights both ways. It's probably the aggressive starting between stops that does it in for me.
Interestingly enough I just got gas today and calculated my highest mileage yet at 28.6 mpg. 236 miles on the trip. I was surprised by this because close to 50 miles of that was some pretty hard driving through some hilly, twisty roads. The rest was little city trips back and forth and 2 work day commutes.

Normally my trip consists of short weekend trips, and 5 work day commutes. Just goes to show how crappy my relatively short commute for work is for mileage.

I was going to say that too, except that in my experience(driving other cars), winter is my best mileage season mainly because the A/C is always off. A/C off shouldn't have as much of a positive effect as I'm seeing.

Does anyone know if winter blend gas is less mpg than summer gas? For all we know it's the opposite. Actually, I think it is.
