Spacers and Track Days

I'm thinking of purchasing 17x9 Enkei RPF1 wheels with a +45 offset. My understanding is that I will need a 3mm for the wheel to clear the strut tower. My question is, are spacers okay for track/autocross use? I've never used spacers before and I worry that adding this part will slightly decrease the stability of the wheel.

Thanks!

IMO, +35 is a better offset for 17x9 RPF1.

Tons of track guys are running a much thicker spacer to be able to clear big brakes. You will be fine with a 3mm.

Additionally, with stock springs (or lowering springs) you would need a thicker spacer (or coilovers) to be able to add negative camber.

If not using a bolt on spacer, I'd get extended lugs for peace of mind. 3mm may not be much, but you want every thread you can get holding your wheels on.

Long studs and pass through spacers should be fine for track or autox. I ran +45 17x9 RFP1s for multiple track seasons with 12mm hub centric spacers.

I know multiple people who run them in autox even if brake clearance is not an issue to get the track width closer front to rear.

If you are worried about spring perch clearance, get the +35 or some other wheel with a +42 or lower offset.

I expect to get some hate for this but I run 16mm (front) and 50mm (rear) adapter spacer on my TEs. Around 5ish auto X and 3 track events

I will look for the much harder to find +35, which currently is not even advertised on Enkei's website (or I just suck at interwebs :p), but barring that I am less worried about using spacers now. Thanks to all who replied!

I recommend you call around to some local tire/wheel shops as they usually can order a lot of things.

3mm is fine, stop freaking out people. I ran several seasons with 5mm spacers on on semi-slicks if that makes you feel any better (have yet to strip a single thread or have any problem related to it and I change tires several times at each track event).
