Does anyone have a large dog, i.e. Doberman, Great Dane, etc., that they have ride around with them in their car? Do you have any issues? I am looking to get a Great Dane. My initial thoughts are to take my passenger seat out for him and keep the backseat folded down. I am by myself and never really have anyone ride in my car. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Gruffy didn't want me to leave this morning, because it meant the cone-of-shame goes back on. Two more days and he gets his stitches and staples out.

I have taken my Newfie (about 110lbs, a little over 5ft nose to rear) for a ride a few times in the back of the FRS, no issues. I leave the seat up and she just stretches out, then I spend two days trying to get all the hair out.
It would probably be an uncomfortable ride for a Great Dane though with those long legs (newfs are shorter in leg and "rounder" than Great Danes).

No way I would let a Newfie sit in my back seat. The drool, annoying noises, bad breath, farting, dropping hair and the inability to do what they are told would just be too much.
Oh wait... You were talking about a Newfoundland dog. They are probably fine.

Another thing to consider...if you remove the passenger seat, there's absolutely nothing between your dog and a dashboard, only this time it's with 5 feet of run-up to gain speed.

Corgi rides in the car with a seatbelt. (They make them to latch into the belt receiver.) Short enough he wont hit his head on the dash and die if he crash/brake too hard. Big dog? Not much you can do...but leave the seat.

Big bad, killer pitbull!!!!

With the big bad, killer boxer!

All grown up!

Our boxer passed away a while ago and we got another...a female, I will try and dig up a recent picture. Its so funny, the pit is almost 8 years old now, the most gentle, calm old man.

Picture of the female (her name is Kevi) and the now aging pitbull

Not sure why, but we always manage to have these massive, muscle bound dogs, even the females! She is ~82 pounds.

I'll never understand why certain dogs get such a bad rap as being violent. I mean my poodle/terrier mix is WAY more violent than every pitbull I've come across. His favorite hobby is killing every animal that comes into his territory, with wild chickens the top of his list... Also have you ever met a chihuahua? Those fuckers are brutal!

One thing I would say to potential PitBull owners - they need attention and an outlet for energy. On the days we couldnt take our guy for a walk, he was extra anxious/scared around the house. I also think his color 'Red Nose' is known for being skiddish. He is ~100lbs now and as gentle and docile as a lab. He only likes other dogs, which are small, so he can lay down and play with them. Has no interest in other large dogs.

As for Boxers, I wouldnt buy one unless you exercise everyday and can bring them. They are like combining a top athlete with a comedian, never ending fun.

Size and strength play a BIG part in that. I don't have the pics uploaded, but the corgi I post got attacked by a pit.

We got luckier than this guy. We only had neck wounds...though the person that rescued ours did lose a finger...wish I was kidding.

Saw this last night, so sad.

(NOT starting the pits are bad fight. I like them. Issue is owners that don't manage them.)

They are probably the most loyal breed of dog, you could train them to protect anything...it would be very easy to train them to attack or neglect them and be vicious. Sorry about your pup, if he was around any of my dogs, it would have been all playing and then naptime. Blame the owners.

Around here Rottweilers and German Shepards get a really bad wrap, not many pits around Southern Maine.
