Valve Spring Recall = Upgraded Internals?

So I never got around to upgrading internals for FI. However, if they are going to be taking the engine out for valve spring recall, should I have them throw in some upgraded internals at the same time?


Just forged rods?


Any recommendations on brands?

Not even sure they would do that unless you pay someone on the side to do that.

Well, now, snowdog, as I understand the recall process, it doesn't require them to tear the interior of the engine apart. So, like said, no - that's a whole different job.

IF your engine has survived your FI so, far, I'd suggest you leave it be (or have a shop do it up right).

Ha! Good luck trying to get them to put anything other than the recall parts. Pretty sure your car is on a wait list to get it done.

Even if they want to, expect dealership butt rape pricing.

A number of dealers are willing to do the work given that you have a good relationship with them. there are ways to go about it to make it "Look" legit.

as mentioned by Mr. Humfrz, it would be billed as a different job. one would get discount on pulling the engine and the work associated with that.

they would bill you for any additional man hours to do incremental work beyond the valve springs.

so the question here becomes:
"what is/are the most cost effective internals upgrade(s), assuming that they already have the engine out for the valve spring replacement?"

any feedback to this question would be highly appreciated.

That might depend on how much power the engine would be modified to make?

Say for example, a straightforward supercharger or a full out turbocharger set up.

Also, how the car is to be driven - a peppy street car or a track beast?


Now, I must leave to go vacuum the carpeting in the house - I DO know something about THAT -

Maybe approaching this from the perspective of listing top ~4 components that fail under FI and the difficulty to replace those given the valve spring repair would be better?
I assume the higher the power, the more likely you are to break these same things.

Good point about "life boat" listing the weak internal parts. That way a person could just pick a place to stop and have an idea of how much the parts would cost.-

Yep, Sunday, a day of rest. In our household, it's sort of a day of rest - rest from not tending to the three granddaughters. However, it is a day where pa-pa vacuums up all the chaff caused by the toddler (mainly) from the carpeting and wet mops the hard surfaced floors to get up the ground in cereal, cookie crumbs, split beverage stainsand tracked in pine needles.

Oh yes, there is always the maintenance on the vacuum, untangling all the blonde hair on the brushes from three long haired blonde girls and numerous dolls.
