Covering Trunk Holes w/ Vinyl
Background Info: Currently have monogram spoiler on trunk, looking to switch to the legsport/legstyle spoiler.
As stated in the title of this thread, does anyone have experience with covering the holes remaining from the previous spoiler with vinyl? I was thinking of doing this (with duct tape taped on the inside for support) and then putting the new spoiler on top of the vinyl with the 3M that came in the package so it's covered. My concerns are:

Yep. Answered your own question.
It may work for a few days, but eventually the elements will take its take it's toll. They only way it could work is that you seal up the base of it with sealant or a gasket. But that's assuming the new wing base covers all the holes.

Hmm, I wanted to put rubber gaskets but I don't think the new wing will sit proper. Yeah I confirmed the new wing will cover the holes.

My two cents, I had a limited BRZ spoiler on my trunk, took it off, got the trunk wrapped. I put some vinyl on the inside of the holes, never covered it with a spoiler tho. It was fine for over a year and a half, then someone came and poked the holes so they broke the top layer of vinyl, but the pieces on the inside kept any leaks from happening. Never needed to replace them or anything, eventually went CF with the trunk.

I first plugged the holes with plastic plugs like this then wrapped my trunk. Worked OK.

Thanks man that gives some good insight on how vinyl can potentially keep leaks out. |

If the spoiler covers the holes and it has 3M tape that goes over or around them then just slap it on over the holes. The 3M tape will act as a gasket and seal it all up with no issues. The more layers you add the more possible points of failure you introduce.

I did this exact same thing. I took the OEM spoiler off, covered the holes with vinyl on the inside and outside. I ran it wingless for a few months with no problems, then got a TRD style wing and mounted it over the vinyl with 3M tape. 2 years and no issues.

I've had a vinyl laminated sticker over a few holes in my trunk for years. It has never leaked.

Sweet, glad to hear that someone has done what I was planning. I'm pretty much just being antsy cause it's warming up here in Canada and my cars at a remote storage so I don't have the availability to fiddle with possible solutions.

If you wind up going this route I would recommend putting a small dab of silicone under the head of the plug so you're sure no water will be getting in under it.
