On the track, there is zero margin - particularly in a complex such as turns 2-3 on Firebird (Bondurant?) West. I've seen professional drivers eat it there...

That's to say nothing of equipment failures or bad decisions of the drivers around you. There's a reason DE2 scares me more than DE3.

That said I'll track the FR-S once or twice if I get around to buying good street tires for it and good pads. The car needs a lot of other, higher priority things to prepare for nats in September.

Go talk to Robert Rose on his opinion of autocross, he was the DE3 leader last time I ran with NASA. Robert understands the value that autocross can add to you as a driver, any other road course naysayers are full of it.
Yes Firebird is gone Bondurant is in and is now the new lease holder of west track.

I did mess with a few road course people when I stopped by the NASA event after our AutoX to say high to @kos. I passed a few that were trying to make fun of us and I told them it's just like road course racing minus all the boring straights. We joked back and forth but a lot of them enjoy AutoX and started out there before dumping a boat load of money into a purpose built time trial car/wheel to wheel race car. I feel you can safely have fun doing both as long as you stay well within your limits and your cars limits at the track and learn how to stop an out of control car at AutoX. Also with Pro Auto Sports if someones breaks are failing and they are not knowledgeable enough to get that car off the track and they hit you then they will be fixing your car.

I know I'm thinking way ahead but did NASA let you run in a different group because you have experience. I want to run with them at AMP but if I do a bunch of events with Pro Auto Sports I'm probably not gonna wanna be stuck at 50mph again on my first 2 sessions.

And Shhh! no one is supposed to know were the special event is lol

Let me respond addressing both NASA and prosports

I am gonna suggest you start red/group1, if you find youself passing excessively or feeling really frustrated an up peoples asses on corners, talk to Dylan and he will move you up,they watch you too you know. orange/group2 is a BIG jump up, folks are running with better tires, faster cars and less tolerance/room for mistakes

dont be macho, spend as much time and take as much instruction before you go try and tear it up, spend enough time in red that you can start in the back, and spin out a bunch know the limits well, this is where you learn the most and folks keep distance

by the time youre in 3, you have to have youre setup dialed, most guys have track day tires and theres nothing stock really, this a is a 9/10s bunch

group4 is all r-comps, and I suggest avoiding this till your ready, its the absolute fastest cars and drivers usually open passing anywhere anything goes this is a 10/10s bunch, accidents can happen and it can be real danger

when I started, I started in red and you should too

I still plan on being in HPDE 1/Red group I just don't want to hold an instructor down if they are needed else where. Because it says on the website all of your runs the first day will be with an instructor but I noticed they let you run alone and take a passenger. If they have an instructor to spare I'm always willing to learn more but at AMP I had to go my first time without one because they ran out and people that clearly knew what they were doing had them. I don't want to be that guy causing some new guys nerves to be threw the roof because they didn't get an instructor and I did.
