I had tried running with the sound hole plugged (via the power outlet plug) recently and I liked how the car sounded. It seemed like it had a more balanced sound without the intake tube dominating. You could hear the engine, and what little exhaust sound the car has.

I decided to remove the sound generator apparatus and plug the hole left behind in the intake elbow.

I used a 1 & 1/2 inch pvc pipe cap to do so. I purchased it from Home Depot for around $1.

The cap was white, so I had to paint it. The only paint I had on hand was some touch up paint for my mk4 VW, which is a dark grey color. I decided to try it and it looked decent enough for my purposes.

The second challenge I had was that the pvc pipe cap would slip over the intake tube hole and was just about the correct size, but since the pvc plastic is not flexible, it would likely not create a seal even with the worm style hose clamp.

I decided to use permatex gasket maker to resolve this. It works, but it does make this mod more permanent in nature. I just made a bead in the cap, and another on the intake and slipped it on.

Here is a low quality cell phone pic of the final result.

I really like how much it cleans up the passenger side of the engine bay.

And bonus - should your canyon road 'legend in your own mind' hooning ambitions find you obtusely parked in a ravine, pop the hood to enjoy a possibly still warm, condom sterilized, um, 'food' source.

I went a bit of a different route than anything else I've seen so far for my total sound generator delete.

I started out with a 1 1/4" PVC Plug from Home Depot. I sanded all of the edges down so that the head was round instead of the ugly octagonal head that's on it for plumbing use. Then I prepared it with a quick acetone wipe down and painted it with Rustoleum black spray paint for plastics.

For the firewall plug, I used bryan767's idea of the SharkBite 3/4" plug

All together I think it worked out quite allright.

NICE DIY. I just removed the noise generator and went for a test drive, LOVING it! The noise that the generator made always confused me, like "why is it so loud when I didn't put that much throttle in". Now it's a lot more clear.

This still works for MY17. Just did it. Also installed the plex plug from the engine side. worked great. Thanks for the DYI super easy.

I did this yesterday. It really cuts down on the harshness of the noise coming from the engine. Before this, I wasn't sure if I wanted to do any exhaust mods due to excessive noise/not being able to hear the good noise over the bad. This has totally changed my mind.
