Pre-painted TRD Body Parts

Has anyone purchased any pre-painted JDM TRD parts (eg. spoiler, body kit, fender garnish, etc.)?

Just wanted to see how the paint quality was as I'm trying to decide whether I should have it pre-painted or non-painted and have it painted here at a reputable body shop.

Thanks in advance.

Depends on the color. I have the white body lip set pre painted and the tint is pretty of, which is no surprise on pearl white. Paint quality is great so far.

I have the STEEL (ICE SILVER METTALIC) color (I think the color code is G1U).

I'm just thinking of getting it painted here but wanted to know the color of the pre-painted version first.

Yea, even the body shops tells me the white on the FR-S is super hard to match.

I have bought a few kits, both TRD as well as the nur spec kit, in Hot lava. Paint match was fine.

How about the gel coat? Is it sufficient or does it look dull?

The clear coat is nice and shiny:

If the price difference with getting a shop to paint it is not so big, I'd have the shop paint match it. You can't get it any better than that. Silver can also be a pain to match..

There's no gel coat as far as I can tell; they're PP parts I think. They're dull nad not shiny at all.

That's what I thought. I've never seen any JDM TRD body parts in person, but I've been hearing they're not "perfect" in terms of the paint quality.

I guess I'll just get it worked on by the body shop.

Thank you for the information.

Cool

I don't have current pics, but my (37J) Whiteout pre-painted TRD bodykit was fine. But this was 2014, I know it won't match the new HALO color.

Attached pics are from 2014 and last year 2016... The paint has held well and seems to match the car perfectly. I've had no problem with pre-painted TRD parts only because they came in my car color (37J).

Looks alright, but from the pictures it seems to be same as mine, great in some angles, a little bit to white in others (your front and rear lip in the first pic for example). Its caused by the bumpers that are actually a bit to yellow, the body is nice and white like the kit.

If ordering the parts from like NigelJDM? they have unpainted option for order... and how much of a difference is K1X to 37J paint. I want to order the '17 rear spoiler but not available in 37J, only available in '17 colors.

I have ordered from both NigelJDMparts and Japanparts.com and can say that the paint match is good. If you want to see my build thread it is the link in my signature.
