The fancy velvet sidewall is just a cool aesthetic thing that Michelin has decided to put on all of their super fast tires. It's cool, but really just a gimmick lol... You'd be shocked how many damn PS4S were trashed off the assembly line early on JUST because of that stupid velvet though. Michelin has hardcore rules against selling any tire that isn't immaculate, even to employees, it's annoying as hell.

I'd estimate that if, properly rotated, they'd last a bit longer than the supersports but MPSS' are also known for longevity... And GRIPPPP. If you're looking for the the best tire the MPSS is your best bet, but if saving $100 and having a bit longer tire life is your game then the Indy 500's (or the hankook's) wouldn't be bad choices.
The rival s mentioned is a great tire, my friend runs it on his STX RX8, but they wear pretty fast (200tw AutoX all-out-speed tire) like the Falken's and Re71r's... So probably not a good choice unless you're interested in AutoX a lot, and spending a lot on tires lol.
thanks for the detail reply man.

I got a quote on a set of indy 500, the price was reasonable, i think i might pull the trigger on them. if it last as long as MPSS I wouldn't mind at all!

I might ask around for a quote on MPSS too.

However im just a regular dude who want to have fun out there so I'm not really in need of the best of the best

I mean the Indy 500 is great, just be sure to pump them all up a psi more of you feel that the front isn't as planted as you want. And take it from me, if you want to get a lot more out of your car for CHEAP, invest in a pair of camber bolts and an alignment. Get as much front camber as you can (almost nothing more than a measly 1.8* even with bolts lol) but every tenth of a degree helps with front end cornering grip. On mountain roads it's practically night and day.
*front camber battles understeer by allowing the car to corner flat over the inside front tire, giving that tire maximum grip* it's the best mod to do after, or with, better tires IMHO.

I'm ok with this. Lots of companies sales hinge on the perception of their product (and not necessarily price) and negative reviews because one tire has flaws out of the box are what hurt that.

Is it Wrong to Like the Stock Tires?

Hi Guys!

I'm new to the BRZ/86 fold, but I'm really enjoying the stock tires. They are pretty quiet and they are teaching me a lot about driving at the edge of grip - they seem to let go predictably and without drama. It's easy to imagine wearing these tires out. I'm amazed how quick and fun this car is stock!

i'm already running -2 up front.

and I ran my Direzza 29 psi at the track and 35 on the street,

would u recommend 1-2 psi above that for the indy 500?

Thanks

@dattran86 I'd suggest trying 35 first, and then going up from there by one psi at at time for street, for track I probably wouldn't run them below 31 or 32..... But I've got a separate set of wheels and tires for racing so mine haven't seen track use.

Are extreme performance tires good street tires? Or are max performance tires better for just street driving?

lol. these terms are terrible. I can't figure any of this out and I have been reading for months.

I personally want: slightly better grip than stock tires, road silence is foremost, and treadwear that is quite decent.

I'm running Yokohama Advan Neova 8D08R on a square setup and these are amazing tires. Haven't had em in the wet but the car isn't my DD so I'm not too concerned

I heard good thing about the 8D08R.

My FRS is my only car, Im more concern about the tires life span, I commute 2 hours a day for work so low Treadwear extreme performance tires might not last me the entire summer.

Just put an order in for the Indy 500.

Edited: I will do quite a bit of Track day and Auto X, so 200 Treadwear tires might just last me 1-2 months including daily

I hope so to!

I feel like im asking too much in a tire, haha

usually longevity and really good grip doesnt come together in one tires.

I'm currently running Nitto NT05's. They are a bit noisy but other then the noise dry grip is fanominal. Have not taken it out in the rain and gotten on it to much to tell how they are in the wet but over all very happy with them coming from continental DW
