Verus Engineering and FT86SpeedFactory Time Attack Build

Jeremy from FT86 SpeedFactory has been wanting to do this for a few years now and after building an aero kit for his GT4 last year; we decided to take the plunge and help develop his Time Attack FRS in the aero department.

We are doing our best to document the build and give an inside look into the massive amount of work involved in doing just a small portion of a time attack build (the aerodynamic development). Jeremy and the guys at FT86SpeedFactory have done a *really* nice job of implementing some neat things in their car overall. The cage, dry sump, air jacks, custom fabrication, etc are all really well done. We are purely here to help with the aero development and help them with cooling the car as well.

We wanted to start this thread as a place to allow enthusiasts and owners to engage and discuss the car a bit. If you have some questions, ask below and we may feature it in one of the videos that we are attempting to release weekly.

Without blabbing too much; here is episode 1!

Thanks,
Eric

So for 3 easy installments of $25k, this aero package could be mine?!

I saw their car at the last GL event in October last year. Sick car, they were already running your rear diffuser. It was unfortunate though because I just kept hearing that they were constantly running into issues on track.

Looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with. What kind of transmission was that?

We're trying to keep it low cost. That being said; 5 figures is a given in materials alone when you are talking about aero that can make over 3000 lbs of downforce at 160MPH. Everything needed to then hold these pieces to the chassis have to be built extremely well and that stuff costs money. Keep in mind the components we are actually making see more than this force as well because we need to offset the lift that the vehicle's body produces.

You are correct. They are running into oiling issues which is a common FA20 issue it seems likes. That being said; we're hoping to help them out on the oil cooling side which was their most recent series of hardships.

Holinger, we answer this in Episode 2 below as well!

What are you going to do from a suspension standpoint? Is there a strategy, outside of stiff springs, to keep compliance while making less downforce (low speeds) yet still not bottom out under high downforce (max speed)?

Going stiffer is our recommendation. Give some mechanical grip up for more aero grip. It will also have a sort of grind plate at the bottom to keep it from eating itself

I am very curious to see how the front bumper air dam (aluminum parts on the corners of the grill opening) are mounted to the bumper. I know you guys are busy but if you could grab a few pics for me I would appreciate it. I will be fabricating something along those lines soon.

If you send us a message on IG or something, I'll grab some photos when I'm at the shop. I keep forgetting to grab some photos, upload them to something to host and share.

Episode 4 is out:

If you guys have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. We're doing our best to answer any questions we can throughout the build phase.

Thanks,
Eric

Episode 5 is out: [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQiVH7jFvzE[/ame]

We do quite a bit of cutting and a little bit of welding on the car. We are still busting butt to get this done by mid-April.

Thanks,
Eric
