much hate for the FRS

i was trying to google something for the FRS and somehow ended up on this forum...

http://www.gencoupe.com/other-vehicl...l-already.html

didn't expect people to hate the FRS so much just for getting good reviews....

Sure sign of the apocalypse. Never thought I'd see the day Hyundai owners had a superiority complex.

Did a quick read on that thread. It's a bunch of same stuff that's already been discussed on this board. Concerns on young possibly "idiotic" demographic of the FRS vs more "mature" demographic of the BRZ (which i haven't really seen happen up in my neck of the woods). FRS/BRZ being low on power on the straights. Doesn't seem any worse than what's been said on this board IMO.

Hell, I was close to getting a gen coupe 2.0T R-type before having the worst experiences at two Hyundai dealerships turned me off.

I like interior and HP aspect over the FRS. I definitely like the exterior of the FRS more though, which to me mattered a little more than HP. But I still think the gen coupe is a great car. Not sure what those guys are heckling about.

I've never had a huge interest in the gen coupe. I feel the older ones look much better than the newer, but I've admired Hyundai for what they've done in recent years. They sure offer a lot of bang / buck.

I don't understand the hate directed at other enthusiasts for their choice in vehicle--we're all enthusiasts after all. The only thing I can attribute it to is people trying to validate their purchases as some sort of psychological reaffirmation.

This^^^

At the end of the day, they bought a Hyundai, which I just can't bring myself to do yet. Despite the great strides they've made in recent years, make no mistake, I'm cheering for them, they've still got a ways to go in building a true enthusiasts car. Cheap luxury? Good for you, but creating a better driver's car takes a little more research than upping the budget for nicer leathers.

Ha. Not so much what I meant. It wasn't a knock on Hyundai, because I think they make some pretty decent cars these days. I'm just not used to seeing "your car sucks and mine is so much better. It's a Hyundai bra!"

What's hateful there? Seems they're basically saying it's a decent enough car for what it is, but the hype seems a bit overboard. Whether true or not, that's not really "hateful.

yeah...I was looking at a gen coupe at the same time i was looking at the FR-S. I chose the FR-S because it's a toyota and not a hyundai. Once day i may buy a hyundai, but that day has yet to happen.

the gen coupe is an amazing car, I just can't get over the fact that it's a hyundai. I figured i'll deal with a Scion and just rebadge it toyota. =P

I didn't really have anything against the GC when I drove one a while back, except the way the interior was put together I just didn't like the way it felt.

The door lock / window controls were on the door in a way that seemed pretty awkward (it's really hard to explain, they were on the side panel in a way where it would have been more convenient to use your right hand to reach across to access them), the center stack was busy enough to belong in a sedan (not a bad thing, just more than what I wanted in the car I was looking for).

Didn't mind at all how it drove, granted it felt soft (2012) and compliant for road driving very similar to the Tiburon I owned once before. The FR-S can be a bit rougher, but I do like the way it feels as well.

I got the feeling that either one could be a fun car though, and I'm very happy with the FR-S.

While its a good car I don't think I'll call it amazing anytime soon. It's finished last or nearly last in almost every test Ive seen it in and all of the auto journalists that I trust think its good, but has some solid flaws, the transmission and weight being two that come to mind.

I love the Gen Coupe (especially the v6) but it's huge, and doesn't use the interior space well at all. It's a Korean mustang.

I definitely understand the use of interior space. I expected much more space out of a car that size. Even the Tiburon had a good use of trunk space and such...so it just seemed odd how they managed that given in the GC.
