My best guess is mid 2012. I would be shocked if it was before, not so much if it was after.

The car was going to be produced by the TAS, but it might have got pushed back due to the earth quake. The US will probably see the car 6-18 months later, but nothing official has been released yet.

Not sure about that - I saw an article the other day where Toyota claimed to be back at full production levels by this June. Let's hope anyway.

I think we will see it at the dealer by mid-2012.

Production version is supposed to be shown at the TMS in December.

Honestly, with history showing these things, I'd doubt we'd see the car in Q1 or Q2 like Japan will. They'll more than likely save it for late-summer 2012 and release it as a 2013 MY. Thats my expectation at least. Any earlier and I would be all the more happier.

^ This would make me very sad. But I guess it's a good idea to prepare for the worst. It doesn't really matter in my case since I won't be buying the car right when it comes out, but if it were to come out sooner, I'd at least get to soak up all the excitement from the early birds. I hope the release date is Fall 2012 at the latest.

Hopefully Toyota will listen to my story and come out with an official release date for my sake! All the cars I have owned has been Toyotas! So I been pretty loyal.

If I have any dream of owning this car, it would have to come out near the end of this year. I been waiting for this car to be released since it was out in concept as the ft86. It would be my first sports car.

Now heres the story...

I was recently in an auto accident where someone smashed into the car behind me who smashed into me and totaled my Prius at a red signal light. And which I smashed into the car in front, and the car in front smashed into the car in front of her.

For 5 years not a single rock chip on the front of my bumper. RIP Prius. This incident has left me thinking hard whether or not my dream can come true if I need to dip into my dream funds now.

I am very worried that the person who caused the accident will not be able to pay for my medical even, which is scaring me. Since I have problems with my upper body due to whip lash and my left leg likely to need surgery now. I cannot even lay down without drugs. But a huge problem is that I was 75%-90% recovered on my ACL graft on my left leg. But now its stiffing up cause I can't rehab due to the auto accident which left my leg giving out and paralzyed in pain sometimes. Both my knees got smashed into the dash.

My situation is I also got laid off last year, but saved up money just for this car. But I am going to dip into my funds for this car if I have to buy another car first or if I cannot get all my medical covered.

And I need an automatic now. =/ So I am pleading to Toyota to come out with a release date so I can better budget my finance better. Or rather to see if my dream can still come true. And yeah my car sales guy has known I been wanting this car so I didn't just make it up!

So if Toyota can throw some pity my way and at least come out with an official release date... many thanks.

Sorry to hear that and I hate to say it but you might not be comfortable in a FR-86... you might try sitting in a miata or S2000 or something with a similar front seat that sits low. It took me a long time with my back injury to get back into a smaller car.

Sorry to hear man, I would just do the stuff that's more important first, especially your health, the car isn't gonna go anywhere it's just a car.

Besides if you can't get at launch, just wait, some of buyers will default on car payments and then you'll be able to buy a used 5-10k mile model with a longer warranty for $3k less than sticker price.

An accident in a tiny car will not end well. I have to deal with deer all the time, and they won't pay for my insurance!
