FYI this is who you're saying shouldn't be allowed to use the internet:

http://elementtuning.com/

I mean yes, the post in itself was rather weird, the whole point of a brake booster is that it stores the vacuum energy giving you a good two or three power assisted pumps of the brake without the engine on, which he should have noted in his suggested test for all the readers so I don't agree it's driver input overlap causing a lack of braking force (or at least the way Phil describes it with a 'lack of vacuum', I lean towards it being electrically induced) but when you try to put someone down in a technical discussion by calling them children it's pretty weaksauce.

And for my own pedantry, I like forums that ban people for triple posting, multi-quote isn't that hard.

So to sum up, I must be banned cause I didn't multi quote replies that spread over 4 or 5 pages apart and someone who repeatedly posts wrong technical information in a car forum is just expressing his "view on the subject"???

I may sound a bit childish myself now but... glol!

hey guys, new contributor, long time lurker here,

I tried the Pedal Dance at my last autocross practice day, and was not impressed. i normally just puch and hold the Trac button, and i do still occasionally activate ice mode, but after the pedal dance, pedal effort was unpredictable and sometimes exessive, and i still got into ice mode a few times.

here is my basic setup

Stoptechs front and rear
re71r (265/35/18)
edelbrock supercharger
eibach coilovers
custom medium rear swaybar
left foot braking.

maybe i am doing it wrong?

any advice would be appreciated.

Per most of the advice in this thread: practice. Trying it out when you only have 3-4 runs to try and figure it out just isn't enough time for average folks.

Sorry i didn't specify on that.

It was a practice day, and I got 16 runs on a 76 second course.

I tried Pedal dance for most of the day, and gave up around run 10 or 12.

also I am a relatively experienced autocrosser, mostly in prepared and Mod class cars. probably not nationally competitive level, but i was pretty close at one time (got a trophy in FP driving an RX-7 at the solo Nats back in the 90's! )

Well... some oddball results today.

The afternoon was out because something tripped the CEL for ECU communication, which put the car into limp mode... after getting that sorted so I could actually drive I forgot to re-enable my 86Nanny - and didn't realize till after we were done for the day.

The morning... well, my first run was fastest, but I tried with ABS disabled today (2nd run only.) If it's a good idea, I'm not ready for it! On the other hand, the ease with which I found a rear tire locking up points to a potential reason ice mode is kicking in as well.

More experimenting tomorrow, we have another event.

Using pedal dance first time this weekend. Should have been doing it sooner. What was the car tryin to do with the brakes with the 5 second press I'll never know.

anyone know if pedal dancing and activating ice mode on the 17's is different since the vsc and abs has been recalibrated?

At the Pittsburgh Tour, my co-driver and I were getting ice mode multiple runs. The lot is bumpy.

A week later at the NJ Pro Solo, I got ice mode every single run (even multiple spots during the same run) also a bumpy lot

I heard getting better rear pads might help??

Question:

What is the difference between pedal dance mode and that mode the car goes into when your brake switch button thing under the brake pedal fails.

For the latter: The lights that come on are the slip light indicator (stays solid) and the ABS is working indicator light (also stays solid). I have never tested the ABS in this mode (my car does this aprox once a year.. brake switch fails... lights come on until I buy the stupid 12$ part and replace it.) but everything else is off.

Perhaps removing the little switch under the brake pedal is the only way to truly turn everything off including ABS.

Can anybody confirm/ give more info.

The switch under the brake pedal is for the brake lights.

Unlikely, pedal dance doesn't trip the abs light, you'll have to test.
