Removing the door handles

Has any one successfully removed the external door handles yet?

I know Grazio makes replacements:

http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/..._door_02up.jpg

However, I haven't seen any guides on how to do it. On my 86, I've tried removing the rubber stopper directly opposite of the handle from the inside, thinking it might give access to a screw or a bolt, but no luck.

Any clues (hopefully without removing the entire inner door panel)?

any clues or DIY for this kind of project would be great. I have seen plasti dip but I would prefer vinyl wrapping.

besides, Grazio prices though very nice, are so pricey.

thanks

just go and take the car apart, and work it out, its not rocket science.

get tools. take uphostery out and go from there, why do you guys need a DIY? i mean its not difficult, and about every car is the same.

In case you are still interested, its actually quite simple.

On the door, Remove this piece of trim (it pops right off).

Underneath there is a hole, if you look in there you will see a T-30 torque screw

Loosen this screw. It is held by clips so that it doesn't fall into your door. As you loosen it, the lock will drop out the other side. Pull it out completely.

Once this is done, the handle slides towards where the lock was.

You can now slide the new handle in place, put the lock back in, tighten the torque screw and you are done!

Once you pull the lock out the handle should slide pretty easily to the right then you can pull it out. It worked pretty simply for me, not really sure what else to say.

If you have the smart key it has a screw on the inside holding a bracket. To get the handle off you will need to remove the interior door card, and carefully remove the screw from the other side first. Then it will slide out.

I figure it out, you also have to remove the sensor that's inside the handle which is a total head ache. Unless you remove the glass/regulator, you will spend quite sometime removing the sensor. here's how you do it
